Sounds like a good thing. I think they're up there every thursday night. A couple of my young blokes mates from Oakville go for a run regularly.

Team KSRC perhaps....?

There's a guy that lives around the corner from me with a Camel Honda pocketbike. He rides it around the street, flat out, with no regard for other vehicles that may actually use the road and he doesn't wear a helmet. Annoys the fuck out of me.

I feel like running into him with the cage just to show him what a spastic he is.

Yeah, they're a fun thing but because they're cheap there are a squillion of them around. Chris gets his into an area near us where they are building new houses. It's a public road technically although its fenced off from traffic so cars can't get in. He rides for about 20 mins then puts it away so people don't get the shits.

There are a few kids around our place though that blast around everywhere on them and just annoy the shit out of everyone. One day someone will unfortunately get splattered and then the things will get banned.

I suspect that is why the latest round of "updates and corrections" to our demerit system has included offences for "motorised toys"... which I presume is anything with a motor that cannot be registered eg: pocket bikes, scooters et al.
I think it is a pretty nasty little fine too.

If you get caught riding one on a public road over here (or in a car park for that matter, since a car park is a road related area and is therefore covered under the legislation) you go to court for riding an unreg/uninsured vehicle and for riding without a licence, if you don't have a licence.

Hold the phone Jase. How can you be done for unreg/uninsured if you can't register the vehicle. And if the capacity is 50cc or less you don't need a license (at least not in NSW I believe). AFAIK, kids banging around on the domino's scoots dont need a rider license... so what's the story?

It's powered by a motor and it's a vehicle, therefore it is a motor vehicle under the act. Any motorvehicle used on the road must be registered. (There are exceptions and they are lengthy and complicated. Normally they have to do with power output etc. However, these pocket bikes do not fit into the "exception" class.)

It's the same as bringing a car in from overseas. If it isn't compliant, then it can't be registered. If you drive it on the road, you get done for unregistered/uninsured and some obscure non-compliance laws.

As far as licencing is concerned, you are required to hold a licence to operate a motorvehicle. Your licence must be appropriate for that class of vehicle. In S.A. if you ride a bike of 50cc or less you are required to hold a full drivers licence. This does not include learners permits. Therefore, you must be the holder of at least a car licence to operate one of these vehicles. Regardless, if you have a licence, you are still riding the thing unregsitered.

Children are not allowed to ride these, or any other scooter powered by a petrol engine on a road or road related area.

All very good questions Sam but ones to which we haven't been able to get a straight answer even out of the local pleece. What we do know is that if you blat around our place on one of these you get a Castle Hill patrol car on your doorstep within approx 30 mins (you can almost set your watch by it).

Alternatively, if you've had some shit throw a brick through the front of your house like the bloke down the road from us did or if you've had the wheels off your car pinched, you get told to report it to the assistance line because they won't come out. Go figure huh?

From what I've gleaned I think what Jase says applies in NSW

Glen, if you get that happening again, just bring out the peewee bike & start making a bit of noise. Then say to the cops "oh yeah, while your here...."
