I was caught in such situation before, item not as described.

I've realised that if it's less than US$100, it's not worth the time complaining to PayPal.
They will ask u to send the item to be assessed by an independent 3rd party and u gotta fax them the report blah blah blah...

I chased a guy for $24 thru Paypal
coz he sent me sumfing completely different to what was advertised
...and it did not work

2 weeks later I got my $24 back....
I ONLY ever deal with sellers who take Paypal :D
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

So far I've only had one bad experience with eBay - the product hadn't arrived after 10 days so i contacted him, he swore he sent it, but then he sent another cd...later I saw the same cd in the post office for a little bit more than I paid. So either he did send it and it really got lost and then he bought a new one to give me or he was trying to scam me...

I have only bought 9 things on ebay, but it has been excellent so far for me. I have bought several motorcycle manuals, a turntable (Linn Sondek LP12- $3000 for a new one, I paid $500 for a used one) and a GT550 motorcycle. I think that the secret for the more expensive purchases is to only buy if you can pick the item up yourself- I nearly drove to Sydney when I tried to buy a Z400 on ebay with 10000 or so genuine kms.....The dude who sold me the turntable was embarassed about it's condition and knocked off $65 off the price. The bike was bloody excellent and a steal- needs lotsa work, but so I cheap I didn't care. I may sell it on later (for a small profit) so I don't want to say how much it cost me.... :)
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

I've bought and sold a fair bit on ebay (my feedback is in the 70's - yeah 100% positive), mostly car and bike stuff and I recon its real good. I only deal with Aussie people and have only ever used bank deposit for payments. I have noticed you have to be real careful when purchasing and ask plenty of pointed questions and get extra photo's etc if required. There are rip off SOB's out there but also people look at things differently and as such notice/list different things/discriptions. You really have to do your reserch. Don't get me wrong I to have seen plenty of scams and some gear at way way to cheap a price but you have to use some common sense. I've had a good run so far and hope it continues.

I've only ever bought 1 thing on eBay - an iPod USB doohickey.
Apple charged $35.00 locally for a replacement.
I couldn't believe it - I got a (rip-off version) for $0.01
I reckon I could afford to lose 1c, but then, I am a cheapskate! :)

I have bought a stack of stuff from both here and O/seas, with only one small problem with a local pick up item not described. As it was a cash transaction and a pick up, I refused delivery and payment, and then left neg feedback. They then did the same to me, but who cares, all my other transacs, both selling and buying have been 100% so nobody ever got worried by it. But yeah no probs so far. :)
