Recent changes to the scheme.

The test is now at lunch time ie before the road ride and Road Craft lecture so that students aren't too fatigued. May be a good thing but will allow less time for practise after the road ride

For the road ride the instructor now leads rather than follows the first two riders. What this achieves I don't know but probably makes the observed road ride somewhat pointless. ie how can you observe properly when you're in front.

I think these together with the changes to the course layout last year are designed to make it a lot easier.

Firstly, hire the CB250. It is damn near impossible to fail on those things. Much harder on a big sport bike.

I reckon it is heaps better doing the test before the road ride. then it is straight off the back of the morning practice. Much easier.

Thanks for the info everyone, i just don't do well in tests

Collete, i am doing the test at Clyde

I have been practicing all the test components at Homebush at night with a mate, we set up cones and chalk lines in one of the large carparks. I don't think i will have any real issues though, i can move my bike around without putting my foot down at walking pace.

I seem to be doing a lot of stoppies though when i do the fast breaking. And the swerve seems to get me occasionally.

I am looking forward to a test ride saturday morning of my next bike....05 ZZR600 :D

If you pass the test it's better, but if you fail you still have to do the ride and the lecture. In some cases you get people who are quite upset at blowing the test so they probably aren't going to pay that much attention to the rest.

On my Q-Ride oh so many moons ago (I'm a seasoned rider, you see) the instructor was in the lead for most of the time.

Hey Julian, what sort of bike are you riding?

If you have any adjustment in your rear preload, soften it off a notch or two and see if it helps with the stoppies (depending on how far the rear wheel is lifting will determine how effective it is) and may slow the steering making the bike more stable in low speed manouvres.

Make note of where your current setting is and try this long before the test so that if its no good you can change it back.

Julian,
I did my test recently, and all the comments above are really good:
- it's all at a S-L-O-W pace, so practice that rear brake & high revs
- if you stuff up slightly, it don't matter that much (I knocked a few cones over), just keep going, positive attitude (I LOVE the idea of singing! )
- Don't put both feet on the ground!
- Go slow in the emergency stop (as in, aim for 25 or so, not 50!!!)

Most importantly, you're with 5 other people who all want to pass, and want you to pass too! The road ride is then a bit of fun, and relaxing! If you're doing your test at St. Ives, they'll probably go through McCarrs Creek - nice.

Good luck, let us know how you go :)

I'm riding a GPX250, it's only 8 weeks old. I have pushed the rev's up slightly for practice so it's harder to stall.

The test for me is at Parramatta/Granville, does anyone know what the ride is like out there?

Julian

PS I am thinking of a signature.......but most of the ones on this site would put me to shame......it's gonna take some time.

I did mine about 15 years ago in Sydney @ Seven hills. Probably chamged a bit now days, but all the comments are pretty much the same as then.

We had guys who could ride and they failed, due to over confidence. There were retards that passed and they shouldn't have (they were farked) Just take your time, beleive in your ability and you'll be fine.
I almost failed a couple of times. Drag racing from the lights after we lost the group. When i did the last part of my test and did it good, i popped a wheelie. Instructor called me over and said"i can fail you for that" Please don't  Most places are run by riders, that understand, so chill..

BTW: I did mine on an XR250, which made it so easy.

Good on ya, JJ, congratulations.

Now be bloody careful for a little while. You know, "Passed my test, I'm better than Rossi, more powerful bike, supreme confidence", etc etc

Take it easy for a few days and enjoy every kilometre

cheers
