Whilst the police do a job that I wouldn't like to do and hat's off to them for that..........
I too suffered being stopped seven times in seven days by the same police officer and the last was the one that caused me to snap was as she tried to issue me with a speeding ticket for an ASSUMED speed of between 70mph and 120mph.
I then politely asked for her badge number and sought assistance from a solicitor colleague of mine to word a letter of complaint addressed to the Chief Constable.............now, I do not know if it was the letter that did it, but from policemen friends of mine I learned that she was transferred to a neighbouring force.
As my reply from the head honcho stated " the police have to be seen as impartial at ALL times"
May be that it is time to put your wordiness to good use and write to the Chief Constable ?

People seem to be forgetting coppers aren't forced to do that job: they chose it, ahead of many other career paths. They get a salary and many, MANY other benefits from being in the Force. They have NO right to treat someone like this, and they certainly don't have my respect just because it's a 'difficult job'.

In the same position, I reckon I'd be carrying my iRiver with me everywhere, and hitting the record button when it came time for this sort of abuse. There is no excusing their behaviour, and they deserve lose their jobs. I know I would if I did the same.

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street.

"But, officer," the man began, "I can explain"

"Just be quiet," snapped the officer. "I'm going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back."

"But, officer, I just wanted to say"

"And I said to keep quiet! You're going to jail!"

A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you that the chief's at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a good mood when he gets back."

"Don't count on it," answered the fellow in the cell. "I'm the groom."

I too have had a period of what I believe was police harassment in it's purest form, pulled over every day for almost 6 weeks, but ...........

being a smartare, *no matter how justified*, to the copper on the side of the road is an exercise in futility. The one and only way to deal with this sort of harassment is with a cool headed, polite letter.

And Tenoq, be *very* careful using any recording device without first advising the participants of the conversation that they are being recorded and gaining their approval - this sort of behaviour is illegal under the 'Listening Devices Act of 1984'

Ok.......I can only relate my own opinion and expiriences but on the whole (at least here in SA) I think the Police are pretty fair and do a good job.

I DO get pulled over, usually once a month or so, for a quick license and rego check. When I drove my worked HJ Premiere I got pulled over at least once a week if not more.

Sure I've had the odd tool pull me over with a bit of attitude, but if I haven't done anything wrong I smile, I'm polite and I'm one my way again in less than 5 minutes. If I was being an idiot, well then I deserve what i get.

I have even had a Police car behind me (that I didn't see) when I deceided to pop a wheelie from the traffic lights, the patrol cars lights went on so I pulled over. The officer got out with a big smile on his face. So I took of my lid, put on my best "yeah I know I'm and idiot" look and was reaching for the wallet to get the license out. The officer says "that was a bit silly wasn't it" to which I reply "yepp, not the best timing I've had" He then has a quick look a my license and says" Alright see you later......oh and next time look behind you".

Also not that it matters but I have several friends in the Force (including Jason/Aardvark) and often get to hear the other side of the tale.

As I have said in other posts, I work with Centrelink, and like the Police, I see people at their worst. It's a hard thing to do day in and day out and sometimes, no matter how nice a person you are you just want to say "fark you idiot" and do your worst to them. The main difference is the Police often have to work through this in life threatening and heartbreaking situations.

My 2C worth they do a pretty good job overall.

Yenzarill, basically I figure you have 2 choices....1) give up and move or 2) Start being a real hoon and give em somehting to pull you over for (if they can catch you  ). It is a pity too hear a tale like yours and just goes to show perception (of us as motor cyclist in general) is a fair distance from the facts.

when I had a bike 25 (I don't even like admitting that!) years ago it was a heap of shit bike that a girlfriend from schooldays had given me (she was quite eccentric and off her face alot of the time it's true. Also on a very long stint - 6 month court case of jury duty! - so she didn't need a bike - locked up so long that her boyfriend brought her in something to smoke and yes of course more trouble ensued) but anyway back to the story.... I was trying to restart this badly behaved bike ... a kick start model ... in a Safeway supermarket carpark. Got hot so I took off my jacket and helmet and put them aside. Police car came along and theysuggested to me that I was attempting to steal the bike. Very funny - not! Just trying to start the thing.
So they decided to help me and one of them got on the bike and the other one and I were pushing him around the car park when I got a fit of the giggles thinking about what the people watching from their cars at the intersection next to us would be doing. Pissing themselves laughing of course. The policemen did not really appreciate my "attitude" and told me to "push the fucking thing home" and left me to it. Quite reasonable really. But I didn't have to push it far before a group of guys on bikes stopped dismantled bits off the bike put it back together again and waved me off on my now perfectly running bike. See. Other bikes always help you. And it still makes me laugh.

what about if you keep a record of each time you pulled over including cop number, time place and reason. If the same cop pulls you over every week to check your license or your rego, surely you can you can ask for some justification of this behaviour, especially in a small town where everybody knows everyone and what they ride/drive?

Yeah, I have considered keeping records, recording interactions with my phone, lodging letters etc.

But really, they haven't been able to pin me with anything, nor do I intend to give them anything to fine me for. So I should be pretty right. Their persistence is amusing.

Another tale I remembered while reading one of these replies, once I was told "You'll recieve a fine in the mail for speeding. You were doing at least 80. Since there are two officers that witnessed this, it can stand up in court."

I guess it all started when I got an XR600. I suppose it was pretty loud, but I don't believe I was hurting anyone by being a bit noisy. How do you ride a single cylinder 600 quietly?! At least the ninja can be ridden so that it is quiet. At about 5000-6000 rpm you start to notice the straight-through exhaust  but that's saved for out-the-road.

I also think they are suspicious how an 18 year old managed to get enough money together to buy a ZX9R that looked brand new to someone who didn't know bikes... hence the suspicions I've heard that I deal drugs.

I'll just hold out until I move... I've lived in this small town long enough anyway.

I get waved through RBTs and licence checks on the bike and most of the cops around here wave to me as I go by ...

In my brother's old work hack (XF) towing a trailer I got pulled up for a licence check (which I didn't have on me). I quoted the number and the officer doing the check rang it in rather than make me bring it in to the station the next day. "Have a nice day, sir."

But I DO know of one police officer that's a real jerk. And that's all I'm going to say on the subject.

I've not yet had trouble with Aus police (Uk coppers are a different matter), only been stopped at booze buses and got a speeding fine from a mobile camera on Bell St. I had an unmarked car revving at the light trying to get me to race, but I didn't and I saw the lights hidden in the window when I pulled behind him at the next lights.

What I don't like is seeing cops break the law and then fine someone else for doing it. How often do you see a police car speeding without lights and sirens? How often have you seen police cars with lights and sirens speeding back to the station?

I watched a police bike lane splitting, he kept an even pace and passed some 50 cars on each side. He then pulled between two cars and sat in traffic, watched a biker two cars in front of him who pulled onto the while line and passed one car - the copper pounced and gave him a ticket.

One day on Bell St I came up to the lights and a copper was sitting on his BMW tank thing. I decided to be polite and pull next to him and say hi. He checked my bike over and told me if I pulled up next to him again he'd fine me.

If you look around there is plenty of abuse of power, and I don't lile that the moterist (cages included) are used as a cash cow and to get crime figures up, while theft is best part of ignored.

Rant over

Are you sure they're not waving at you to pull over and stop? Kinda like that Kwaka add that was posted.

The problem with small town cops could be that they watch too much Blue Heelers (insert any other police show) and desperately want something exciting to happen in an otherwise quiet little old town. Mount Thomas must have the highest crime rate per capita in all of OZ, somehting new happens every week at the very least.
