I was on my way home from work last night and saw a bloke come off his bike (fortunately only a low speed front wheel lock and lowside) so I went up the road a bit to turn around and go back to see if he was ok. Someone in a cage had chopped in front of him in traffic coming up to a set of lights but it could have been worse. When I got back only one other person had stopped and the person who had caused the off was long gone. He wasn't wearing gloves and had cut his finger so I got the first aid kit out of my car and got some band aids to cover the cut and stop the bleeding. While helping I noticed a fairly strong smell of alcohol on his breath which is why I have put up the poll.

I will not drink if I am going on a ride and have even declined free alcohol the night before going for a ride. I think we need as much of our wits about us as possible so anything that diminshes our reflexes can't be good. Anyway thats my opinion, what does everyone else think.

Having "only a few" is an exercise in futility..... Why bother drinking AT ALL if you are going to ride...

The only thing I am guilty of is possibly riding too early after a hard night the night before.... although I try my best to avoid it...

certainly not before a big ride out (tho it hasnt kept me upright :cry:

) but going out for a pub meal (parma!) and having a pot or 2 while there hasnt caused me to drop my bike yet.....yet :roll:

welp.... out on the "ride day" if we stop at a pub (Tumbulgum pub on the river? Maleny, Kenilworth, Mt. Lindsey area, Kyogle, etc.) and you know you'll be there a while, I don't see the problem with a social drink. Hell, it's great at the end of a great ride. Obviously know your limits, don't go anywhere near the "feeling it" phase (which for me is a small beer "nursed" over the course of the stop).... but hey, some ppl can't drink sociably, they only drink to get drunk. there is a time and place for that.....
good topic btw "Zed"Beast, as I'm curious to know what others think. If it is totally BLACK and WHITE or a few like myself? ....and if you get honest remarks.....????

around town a couple with a meal or a quick drop in to the pub is ok for me. not enough to get over the limit tho.

on a ride day not till i get home, but then :drinkers:

I love beer , let me tell ya, but wouldn't think of getting on the bike after one. I figure you need all of your wits about you at the best of times so why give the other bloke a points start.

When I get home that's a whole different story,,, Lager frenzy!!!!!!!!

sometimes i reckon it's easier to get away in bike than car when encountering a blow test.....................coz last time the coppers let me go thru the barraicade when the whole rd was blocked and the all cars were forced to go to the service road to have them tested...........

im lucky that decision has been made for me already. i am not allowed to drink any more. (med resons). Besides we dont want to easier tagets for the tin cans

Not anywhere near Phillip Island around the GP they aren't :roll:

....and it's a pain trying to blow into the little tube with your helmet on and you realise you haven't taken a big enough breath :oops:

Alcohol first and foremost affects motor function, well before the 'feeling it' stage (where it has started to affect the messages passing from your ear drum to your brain - thus affecting your balance and orientation). If you think you can ride as well after 1 or 2 beers as you can clean sober then ...

YOU ARE WRONG!!!

Having said that, everyone has their own level of risk they are willing to take - there's no way one or two beers is going to be the sole cause of you coming undone. I'm still learning how to ride a bike safely and hence i feel i need every bit of control and reaction time i can get - so i have absolutely zero alcohol when i ride, and preferably 100% blood-caffeine level
