Another "brother" down

Postby Colette » Mon Jan 17, 2005 8:07 am

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but we have had a rider die here in NSW this morning. (I have access to AAP news so I see these as soon as they come in).

It always makes me feel so vulnerable - could easily be one of us, that's why it hits close to home. RIP mate...

NSW: Motorcyclist dies on motorway

TOLL NSW
SYDNEY, Jan 17 AAP - A man has died after coming off his motorcycle and being struck by another vehicle on a Sydney motorway.
Witnesses told police the man was hit by a Toyota Camry as he skidded along the M4 roadway after coming off his Honda CBR 1000 past the Coleman Street on-ramp at Mays Hill about 5.30am (AEDT), police said.
Both the motorcyclist and the male driver of the Toyota were travelling east at the time.
It is believed four cars following the motorcyclist managed to avoid hitting him but he was struck by the fifth, police said.
Two eastbound lanes were expected to be blocked until about 8am while investigators examine the scene.

darned shame, i just hope that he didn't feel any pain.

This thread is duplicated on another forum, naturally there too they were asking how he fell off too. No one sans investigators will know this i guess..

Track days look better and better all the time. It's horrible to think that he survived the actual off, but was killed by traffic after the event. :(

We had two die in Adelaide last week. One ran into the back of a truck on the freeway and the other embedded himself into the side of a 4wd.

tis the season for riding so there's some reason behind a rise in numbers.
It may also be that those who don't regularly ride get back on their bikes, and try to ride like they did 12 months ago without waiting to get their feel back.
I'm not saying anything categorically, just that it's a possibility.

Another rider went down from the OCAU forums the other day, knocked off by a van making a turn from the middle lane... fucking tard!

Hes still alive thank god, but fractured shoulder from hitting the gutter and shattered thumb IIRC, his poor gsx650 i think or 750 is a bit worse for wear and hes only had it a few weeks :(

So yeah be careful out there guys!

Indeed. Especially when recounting details of accidents you heard about from second-hand accounts. You could easily end up embellishing what happened.

1. Try to avoid tweaking reports of incidents for dramatic effect.
2. Ask yourself if you're doing the rider in question any favours by publicising, however anonymously, details of his off among people who don't even know him.

(NB: Chikin and I are both members of OCAU.MC. The original report of the accident in question makes no mention of the van turning right from the wrong lane)
