There IS an actual law, that they have to radar you OVER and MAINTAINING the speed above the speed limit for 3 secs. So, if they get you slowing down, technically, I dont think they can ping you.

I got done once, over took a bmw, as I eased off and pulled back in, he come over the ridge, flashed the lights and came after me. Asked me why I was speeding, I replied, I was overtaking, and decelerating at the time. All I got was a nod of the head, and a have a nice day.

But overtaking isn't an excuse for speeding. There's no law to let you exceed the speed limit.

The radar itself has to get a lock on you and get several samples within a certain tolerance before it will display a speed. I guess if you deaccelerating quick enough, it wont beable to lock a speed.

on friday night it was 3am and i had to go back to my friend's house because i left my house key there. so i rode there normal speed, looking for speed cameras and police cars and obstacles on the road. got to my friend's house, grabbed my key, headed back home quick because i had just checked the conditions and i just wanted to sleep. so i was doing 140 in a 60 zone (don't worry, the road is very wide and u can see for ages), i slowed down to 110 as i popped over the crest of a small hill, and there in the car park of a tavern facing the road was a police car :o to think that i had passed there about 5min earlier and it was all clear...

anyway i quickly slowed down, but still passed them doing 80... luckily nothing happened, but i was crapping myself and kept looking in my mirrors for flashing lights. i've never sped like that on suburban roads, but it only takes the one time to stuff u up :!:

bloke got nabbed on the Hume near Goulbourn last month in a Bentley - radar got him at 239kmh -- apparently as he was slowing down rapidly......

I'm guessing it might be a Bentley Continental GT
What a car .. if i had $660,000 i'd buy one
http://www.rrab.com/bcontgt.htm
just a quick quote from the above web site
The Bentley Continental GT was the fastest genuine 4-seat car in the world - a sporting coupé without rival.
and with power like W12-cylinder-engine (72deg angle between two main banks, 15deg between staggered cylinders), bore x stroke 84 x 90.2 mm, capacity 5998 cc; 4 valves per cylinder, 4 overhead camshafts, 552bhp/411KW at 6,100rpm, torque 650Nm (479lb ft) at 1600 rpm, twin KKK turbochargers

I,ve worked on and driven a Bentley Turbo R and they go like a cut cat
but the Continental GT is a work of art that i wouldnt be calling a Limo

BTW Tape your so lucky ..... bet you had to wash out the draggins when you got home

You must be developing the 6th sense needed to keep a license  many times I have *sensed* something, slowed down, and there they are, over a crest, or behind a tree around the next bend, whatever, but it is amazing the number of times this has happened over the past couple of decades........( I do have an abominable traffic record mind you.......), so it hasn't always helped....... btw nice sign off mate

cheers

My 6th sense & lady luck have bode me well over the last few years.

Only time i've (so far) been pinged is by a bloody roadside camera for 14 over going up from spit bridge, talk about not paying attention to gearing & the big assed fuggin sign's!!

That also takes into account countless hooning attempts when trying to slab it back home in car/on bike for distances of 300km+ at an average of 20 over. Only ever had to do a runner ONCE.

Incorrect. The latest breed of lasers will detect you instantly. The older models required approximatley 2 to 3 seconds to to provide an average speed, but the new ones hit you and provide a reading in as long as it takes for the laser to leave the gun, hit you and bounce back. At the speed of light that's ummm, farken quick.

You don't need to be maintaining any speed. If you're over, you're over.

However, I am of the understanding that there is case law with regards to this matter. That is, someone fought it, went to court and the judge dismissed the matter saying that it was reasonable to speed whilst overtaking. BUT.... and isn't there always? The speed at which you are overtaking needs to be reasonable. If you are overtaking a car doing 90 in a 100 zone and you sneak up to 110, you're probably going to be ok. If you overtake that same car doing 200, you're probably going to get done for speed dangerous.
