Anyone having a rough time selling their bike?

Sun Jun 26, 2005 4:24 pm

Buggered if I know, reckon it might just be winter?

Had my ZX9 advertised on ebay, bikepoint and bikesales and not one call. Asking $7,900 for a bloody good bike, so it ain't too dear. I do realise it isn't the bargain of the year, but you get what you pay for, eh?

Would Bike Trader or the Trading Post be better?

Is anyone else having no luck?

The guy selling the bike we just bought reckons he's getting hosed...probably is, but oh well. And yeah, winter probably doesn't help in the mexican states.

At least you rang the guy!

Where was it advertised?

Actually he sent me a pm on another site, with a link to his bikepoint advert. He was a fairly motivated seller...he had already bought the replacement bike for his girlfriend, as the XJ was too big for her (5'4").

It's just going to get worse I'm afraid! Most bikes sold in the last 15 years are quite competent, and as each year goes by there are more and more bikes that fit the bill for prospective purchasers. Any modern bike should last 10-20 years and 100-200,000kms without an issuie, so there is basically a glut of perfectly good bikes out there.

With new bike sales at or around record levels the proble is only going to get worse for sellers, and better for buyers. Getting to the point where your only real option is a trade-in as that's your only guaranteed sale!

I have real trouble finding good cheap bikes to buy......
Anyone tried to find a good, cheap XV535 lately????? Nightmare.....dealers want $5k ish for them- they were only $7-8k new 10-15 years ago, new......
And yes I hate them, but they are good ladies', learner bikes- lower seat height than even a GN250.....
Hmmmmmmm

You will rarely get the best value-for-money from a dealer. Always remember that they are making something out of it... so you could have bought the same bike from someone else cheaper if you were in the right place at the right time.

Exactly. And they really mark them up too.

mate it depends on the time.

u can sell a 250 no worries but with bigger bikes u might have to wait a while

Yeah, looks that way. At least today I have a had three good enquiries, two of which came and looked.

They say they need to get their finance sorted.........

Oh well.

mate save the heartache of hearing "I need to get my finances sorted" thats a bullshit line I have even used to get away from the clutches of dealers.

Screen your prospective buyers as there is no bigger dissappointment when someone says that when selling privately, more than likely that had a free day and wanted to do some tyre kicking.
