Ok, just had the group manager walk past and advise that they have twoJunior positions available for the 24x7 desk doing very similar work to what i do.

Hours: First off be aware this IS a 24x7 rotating roster environment providing network support for our own department as well as to 30 (and growing) number of customers. Hours wise it is pretty fixed, allthough there can be some flexibility when needed. The shifts are 12 hours long and go from 7 to 7, and go as follows. 2x days (7am > 7pm) then 2x nights (7pm > 7am) and then 4 days off.
Jobspec:
Working with cisco equipment primarily. you think of it, we work with it, from Aironet 1200's through the entire range of switches, routers and pix's up to the occasional 6513 & GSR. There are a few other odd boxes floating around that we've inherited from customers / other past contracts.
Nokia firewall's are involved as well as the occasional other boxes ranging from Radware WSD's, fireproof's & linkproofs through to cisco load balancers. For good manager anyone that can show experience with callmanager & IPTEL will certainly have a foot in the door for this job as we've got a strong base of this internally and within a subset of customer environments.

As far as i am aware, CCNA would be preferred, although suitable in-the-field experience may be enough to nudge you through. This will be a technical job and is often very challenging, i believe they are looking for someone who has some experience, or has some of the basics, and is looking for more.

As this job has a number of state government customers a police check will be mandatory, as well as a security clearance to "secret" classification for one specific customer ( Both of these are no biggies, just making sure your honest, if they want you for the job they'll pay for you to get the clasifications after you get the job).

This is a environment that can vary from being relatively easy through to absolutely insane (and moreso at the moment as we NEED more staff to get things manageable again). We unfortunately lost 3 staff between 18-30 months ago, and they were not renewed due to tightening of the purse strings, making it an even busier environment. Now i understand it as things are better they can afford more staff, so want to hire some fresh blood.

Location: the job is located within Sydney, with the current dayshifts on Monday > Friday being based out of North Ryde, and the weekend shifts based out of our Homebush Datacentre. There is some possibility that dayshifts will move to Homebush permenantly, but that is all rumor at the moment and i wouldn't use that alone as a basis for applying for this job.

Regarding the almighty $. This is a junior position, so the payscale will be a bit lower than what some of the other guys are getting. But if you come in with a fistfull of certifications and especially with experience, you may well get to the upper edge of what they are willing to pay.

Any serious interest, please DO send me a PM ASAP as i don't know how long it'll be before this is advertised externally. Remember, i just had my boss walk past my desk and announce to us internally they are looking as of ten minutes ago.

Out the back under the pergola. It's actually sitting on concrete so it's on the ground but we want it to look a bit different then the concrete.
