Missing Red Key

Post by smithy5 »

I recently purchased a Red April 2007 model ZX10R VIN JKAZXCD1X7A029866. I don't know much about the history of the bike other than the NSW dealer apparently purchased or consigned the bike from somewhere in Victoria. The dealer said he was not supplied a Red Key with the bike and the previous owners contact number has been disconnected. I think the bike might have been a repo or possibly in a minor bingle as I noted overspray inside the left side fairing. I thought I might try my luck on the forum and maybe chase down the previous owner and try and locate the Red Key.
Thanks for your help people......................

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I spoke to Kwaka head office and either I find the red key or if I ever lose the only key I have, I will be up for about 2 grand for a new ECU and Immobiliser. Of course I have pushed this back onto the dealer and I am waiting for them to resolve the matter. Cheers
ps Richo a Red Key is required to program a new cut key. without it you cannot use a cut key.

I was about to say it will cost 2k for a ECU and keys.... My friend bought a CBR600RR from the auction with out a key and the only way he got the key....

Was he contacted the RTA and asked them if they could send the previous owner a letter saying that someone has bought their old bike and was wondering if they get a key if they still had one... They will not be able to give you the customer details due to privacy act.

Give that a try it may work

That 600 is now my race bike

just on a side note, has anyone actually needed to get a replacement yet by using there "red key"

My mate has an 05 R1 with the immobliser thing built into the key. He took a black key in to a key cutter and they gave him a spatula sized key for $120, but they made a direct copy for him even without the red key !?!??!

yeah works fine. He said it cost him $120-$130 or something like that and on the key it has "Battery Inside" so it obviously has some immobilizer inside it. ut yeah works!
