Thank-you Newcastle Kawasaki....another reason to move back.

I rode my mighty GT550 to Newcastle this weekend (I was born in Newcastle) and en-route the speedo stopped working, which I assumed was a speedo cable- no biggie- I phoned Newcastle Kawasaki from Maitland, and although they didn't have a GT cable in stock they reckoned they could match one up. I guessed (correctly!) where their shop was, and arrived about 10 minutes before they shut for the long weekend. I pulled the fairing off and took the cable out to find it OK, and fiddled until I realised it was the drive on the front wheel, which they didn't have in stock. The shop over the road from them was still open so I tried there too, but to no avail- they phoned the wreckers for me, who also didn't have one.....
Anyhow the Kawasaki shop had shut by the time I returned, so I used their front area (under awning-hot day) to re-assemble my bike. (now 12.15ish) A Kawasaki mech appeared, tools in hand with his boss ( I assume.) and he pulled the front wheel out for me to check the drive and the wheel attachment, which was bent thanks to the previous owner.(I have only had the bike a fortnight...) The mech agreed with my assessment (speedo drive) and apologised they didn't have the part and re-assembled the bike for me......wow talk about service.....Kawasaki in Toowoomba could learn a trick or two from these boys...or the shop ever the road who tried to help too....great place that Newcastle...not that I am biased or anything.
Great to see a bike shop go out of their way for a customer, especially someone with interstate plates on, and unlikely to return very often. 10 out of 10 Newcastle Kawasaki! :D

Nice to hear of a good experience with a service shop. It's not only the bike service shops that let people down sometimes it's the automotive (car) that you hear a lot of bad experiences from. It has taken me a little while to find a decent mechanic to service our car with who I trust.

more than some I know

Cheers

Hey Bonestar,
was there a custom painted R1 (2002) would of been snow white with red pin stips may even have a red flame on it now this was the mechanic`s bike ??? . If so i know a mate of his i`ll pass the thanks on. Boss Mechanic would of been Mick(had a beard and mow),he is a nice guy (nicest person at Newcastle Kawa) as for the rest of the staff,i wont pass comment on as my service hasnt been the best there.
Shop across the road would of been Newcastle wholesale bikes, very friendly guys (all ex Gramham Boydes Suzuki guys) giving it ago on there own. Main reason these guys couldnt help as not really a workshop as such, but again great help full guys.

I didn't notice it. The guys over the road were good too. I'll drop in there again next time I'm in the 'castle. I have since noticed there are a few members from Newcastle on the forum- I stayed in Mayfield- coulda caught up if I knew.

Yeah they are gold,
I went in there with a flat about 9 months ago, I was after a new front. They fit it straight away with a minimum of fuss on a saturday, and the guy even lubed the chain and swingarm for me.
Good People.
