Rego due on the 9th ie tomorrow, is the bike therefore unregistered as at midnight tonight or midnight tomorow night? Fairly sure it's the former but seeking some clarification.

the moment it becomes the 10th it is unregistered...

and if you dont re-register within 3 months you have to get another roadworthy

I have it right in front of me for the car. Due on the 20th March it says Expires Midnight on 20th March.....

the 9th does not end until 12.00.00am.. on the 10th

and FYI...
you will note that insurance (on house/car etc)
ALWAYS ends at 4.00pm on the day of expiry
This allows for the insurance cover to be renewed
before the end of business on that day.

that is just such a money bleed.......in all seriousness, what is going to happen in 12 weeks of garaging your car/bike, that is going to cause it to become *unroadworthy* ??? flat tyres / battery is about it. Its just garbage that somehow *magically* the RTA decide that expiration of rego over 12 weeks will result in an unroadworthy vehicle.....its just sucking more money out of your pocket........

up here, if you rego runs out, you can pay for rego at any time within the next 12 months by just walking up to the rego counter, with your $$$ for either 3, 6 or 12 months rego.......this system works really well, you can keep 3 months sticker on your trailbike for winter, and just re-new every year.....or take the bike off the road over winter, do a full motor re-build, and re-register for summer......

If you fail to re-register within 12 months, then you need an inspection certificate, but hold onto your old plates..........if its over 24 months out of rego, then you need to go through the entire 'initial registration' process.

In old Blighty - you get fined for not re-registering your bike no shit, they tax you to buggery, and then have the hide to 'fine' you if you want to garage the bike over winter, when you can't ride it there anyway

I agree it sux and asking for a certificate after 12 months of being unregistered is a much fairer idea.

Mick not sure if you know but if ya hold a health care card you can now pay it for 6 months as I found out yesterday when my Rego arrived in the mail. This may help ya out a little if you do hold one

AND also, if you hold a Health Care Card you can get divorced for NOTHING!!!!

Lainie, I do hold a Helath care card curently but when I went to Vic Roads to enquire about this I found out it's ONLY the rego portion that can be paid in 2 instalments, ie I can pay $32.90 in 2 instalments but I still have to pay the TAC portion being $414.40 and the stamp duty being 41.40 in one hit, so saving me $16 on the $488 isn't much alas and frankly not worth the hassle given that I still have to pay it in 6 months anyways.

Yes, there is absolutely nothing to say it didn't become unroadworthy during the 12 months it was registered. The solution to that (up here anyway) was to employ random roadside tests. The inspectors just walk around car parks, have random roadside checks etc, and you run the risk of being busted with bad tyres etc etc, your normal unroadworthy thing.

What the govt. decided many years ago was that annual inspection checks were *basically* a WOFTAM. Better to open the market to private operators, and do random inspections. It works OK, no-one up here misses those annual rego check - *stay in a queue for 2 hours bullshit*.

But the entire *fleet* up here now is fairly 'new' - the oldest shitboxes you see on the roads are VN Dunneydores as a rule.....not many *old* cars still getting around, and from a 'roadworthy' point of view, they are the ones that need the closest attention most of the time.

If someone that knew a it about bikes were to inspect my bike it would be unroadworthy anyways, my rear disc is undersize, not got the readies to replace it yet so it will live for another month or 3.
