Need advise

Fri Jan 20, 2006 10:14 am

Well, some lady backed into my parked bike. Damaged pegs and all.

Now, how picky would you be if it was you? The driver was ok, did not run away and such and seems to be a hardworking, honest person. No insurance. I have minor scratches which may not be visible if I have a good rub. I don't have comprehensive insurance so all bills will be paid by her. I would definitely make her pay for the pegs, etc. But minor scratches ?

How would you guys deal with this situation ?

Would you pay up if you reversed into someones bike? YES.

take it to bike magic and get a quote. then if you still feel guilty, get them to take some of the minor fixes off to reduce the price..

or get a price from bike magic for the scratchs and source some second hand pegs etc.. and see if thats cheaper.

Minor Scratches i would'nt worry about myself, ask big kev when he tied "Tiggr" up & he rubbed against the side of the trailor above the decal.
I've found when you get pedantic something much badder happens to really bum you out.
I'd get 3 "REAL" quotes then ask for all the costs forreplacement parts & a few hundred for some new tyres or some bling 8) But dont tell her that she'll think your tops for not asking for all that the quotes describe & will proberly pay much quicker as well.
2cs.
Cheers Brett

I have to say that I would want my bike repairing back to the same condition it was in before the accident........no more, no less

she broke it, she can fix it

exactly rite, if it's only minor scatches, but when it comes to sell ur bike, ppl gona think u "minorly" dropped it. :)

i would think u should get few quotes and get the cheapest one for her, to make her pay is also a lesson for her to learn how to drive properly :)

Sometimes I think you are better to just cop a few scratches on the chin...better to get the major stuff looked after.

With going for every single little scratch you run the risk of the repair being so expensive that you end up getting resistence to pay - by playing fair, you are more likely to get the bulk of the damage paid for.

If they aren't going to be reasonable when you are being reasonable, then you go 'em for everything - but that will leave you out of pocket in 2 ways. One, you will have to repair the bike yourself, and two, you will end up paying a solicitor to write nasty letters.

Softly softly, and take a little bit of pain is my advice.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just get few quotes and let her know. Then I'll go from there.

Make them pay...

Settle it fast and keep on her case! What she says at the accident scene and what she, "or her husband", say a few days later can be very different I have found.

Take no prisoners. It's your bike and you want it like it was before it was hit.

Be nice polite fair and reasonable and if they don't come to the party then unleash hell instantly.

Put yourself in the ladys position for a minute, would you like have to pay for things on her car if you didnt do the damage.Come on dont treat people who know nothing about bikes like fools

You could always do the decent thing and get 2 quotes,1 to fix the whole damage and the other to fix the damage she did,now show her the 2nd quote, tell her if she gave you that amount of money you`ll be happy, then you take your bike to your prefered repairer and pay the diffrence between the 2 quotes.

You wouldnt borrow some ones bike drop it on the left side and still pay for a new pipe ???so you shouldnt expect this lady to fix what she didnt do.

BTW if she had insurance its OK to fix all damages, but not right if its coming out of here pocket, double standards I know but thats life and Im not Hinch

Man it up and fix your own damage.

 this works !!

but R1's idea of 2 quotes, take the cheaper one ( at least you wil get some money off her), and fix what you *must*, is a good idea.

Good luck mate 8)
