QLD Raceway Tuesday 12/07...Now with PICS!!!!

Sun Jul 10, 2005 10:41 am

So, who will be there? I am booked in, gunna stop by Ponti's on the way there and try to wake him at whatever stupid hour of the morning it is. I reckon a Coronary adrenaline injection should get the job started.

I wonder how my bike will go there without a steering dampner, it already shakes it's head over bumps at other tracks when on full throttle.

Can an admin please move this to the trackday forum? It somehow found it's way here even though I was in the trackday forum when I posted it. Maybe it's because I was in a topic and just pressed the 'New topic' button without going back to the main trackday forum, I dunno...

Thanks.

Don't need 1. Bumps are more in braking areas anyway. Just make sure you have brakes(i.e meat on pads) so you don't run out of track(front/back straights) .
It's a stop/go track ..........going flat stick then braking hard. People bag it but i always enjoy the day @ QR.
Takes a bit of skill to do consistently quick laps there.
I'll be out there 2morrow(mon) with the OSB guys. Hope this wind buggers off!!

hemi its not the headshaking out of turns thats the big deal its the ring the bike over the bumps in the braking areas at 240kph thats the exiting bit, I have read the track reviews in a couple of mags and they say there is no way to avoid them apart from riding on the grass beside the track.

I did it once on my bike and hated it too death but it does have good runoff and graveltraps at both ends so thats a bonus and i should head out there again some day because me bikes way better sorted out now.

Apparently if you are having trouble getting the back end to make contact with the track add rear rebound....sounds funny having to set your bike up for the braking areas but its the nature of the place.

And most importantly HAVE FUN GUYS. :D

OK bit of a ride report for this day.

I stayed at Pontikat's Local Motorcycle Residence on Monday night, and after some mini sleeps between the sporadic domestic comedy bouts being performed by some nieghbours of his I awoke to the sound of Beryl's 6R. After Sir Ponti decided it was still to early for his ravishing good looks to become fully apparent Beryl and I set off to the track.

First session out I could tell Beryl new the track so I followed him for a while. Then in the 2nd session traffic became ridiculous so I moved in to a more sparsely populated group whilst Beryl continued to work on his overtaking manouvers.

QR sure is bumpy, but is also very fast and suits the bigger bikes a lot more than places like Morgan Park or Darlington, which suits FZRs with radical slipper clutches and the like.

Speaking of Pontikat, he turned up in time for lunch, but had already eaten. This was good, as it gave him the time needed to help me pull the wheels off my bike to fit the 2nd hand slicks that I bought on the day. I can definitely say that slicks make a difference in grip levels. I had Diablo Corsas on up until then, which are a good tyre, but the rear was still spinning up outa turn 6 (coming on to the main straight) and chattering when downshifting into the braking zones. As soon as the slicks (soft compound) went on there was no more spinning or chatter. I did lose a fair amount of stability, with lots more headshake on the gas, but nothing to crazy. However the increase in grip was way worth it. I only really had one good session on the slicks, and was still getting used to them so my lap times were the same as with the street tyres. But next time out it will be quicker for sure.

I think Beryl is now also thinking about slicks. I think his machine would benefit well with them considering all his recent suspension development.

So all up it was a great day, big thanks to Ponti & Beryl for all their help, must do it again soon.

What a great Day

I had a great day at QLD raceway. I also had several photos taken by Keith Muir which turned out to be fantastic shots.

I you are just looking around this site and wondering if you should go to one or not, just do it, get onto http://www.championsridedays.com.au or http://www.toprider.com.au and book a day in Brisbane. They cater for all standards of riders, I know I had to pass the bussa in every corner for about 3 laps until he decided not to pass me again down the straight. It was just a fantastic day.

Onya GARY ........... i mean Drimi. Jezas anyone know what to feed a Veggie ?. We ended up going the Pizza route. Sorry about the neighbours  she tears the poor bugger a new one about every 4 months or so.
As for the Trackday it was perfect weather, both Barrabob & Hemi were mixing it up, the lady on the Orange "Crim" was doing ok as well. Tagged a coupla Blokes on Kwikas & may have found a replacement single seat cowl for "Tiggr". 8)
Drimi had me playing bush 'canic in the pits to get his Slicks fitted for the last coupla sessions. Bob's not allowed to have slicks cause after riding his 6r for 2 sessions last sunday at Darlington Park i couldn't stand the thought of me not being on. With even more traction & stability.
The clutch will be fixed by the next Track day on the mighty Fzzzzzzzr6 & maybe I'll give Hemi some one to practice Bonsaiing into the hairpin.
Pleasure having you stay the Night Hemi. Always good excuse to clean some junk outta the spare room.

Oh Yappa got something here for US mate. It's Wet & very old & it aint me Mum Neka so bugger off.
Cheers Brett

All good fun but you need a couple of days to recover from that place its seriously hard on the body. Its way cheaper to carve up a second hand slick that you got a hold of cheap somewhere than a good road tyre you paid good money for and my powers aged about 3000 road kms there in a day.

Wheres another track day. :D
