QLD - 2 seater to single seater for rego purposes

My gpx is currently registered as a 2 seater, however when rego time come (not for a few months yet) I want to register it as a single seat to save costs and, lets face it, who is going to want to double on a 250cc bike.

What is required apart from removing the foot pegs? Do I need to get another RWC for the exercise?

cant help a huge amount, but i bought a single seater from QLD for my GF. you'll need to remove the pegs in a way that will prevent them from going back on (ie. grinder) and change the seat so that it only sits one (remove padding from rear and recover or just cover rear section in hard plastic)

there would have to be some kind of inspection somewhere i guess, but i'll let a QLDer fill you in. in fact, dont even bother listening to me at all, i've just had a few beers and wanted to talk :oops: :lol:

Yup coconuts is right. Either you have to cut the seat so it is no longer than 500mm, or make some permanent looking cover for it- I saw a nice one on a XJR1300 the other day- made out of polished chequerplate aluminium....surely the boys at work could knock that up for you, if not yourself. Then you need to get it complied as single seat- Boyd's have been doing mine (I went back to double seat on a couple of my bikes- Spada and Z440) and they will fit another compliance plate for around $40. Then cheaper third party insurance time. 8) I wouldn't use a grinder on the pegs- either put a bolt or rivet thru the hole! :)

I purchased a second pair of seats & then just took the foam off the pillion seat & put thge cowl back on it. Then just Remove the rear peg hanger that isnt used & as Bonester said just Bang a big Pop rivet through any holes left.

If you dig through the forums, you'll see what I did to the ER - your seat would be pretty much the same (or you could always come over and have a look).

All you need to do is cut the foam, recover, and remove pegs -don't grind anything!! You are allowed to change your mind and put it all back together again, provided you also pay for re-compliance. I would have thought most 250's should be single rego anyhow, as you aren't allowed to take a pillion for the first year anyway?? So I don't think you'll damage resale much...and it is all reversible anyhow...

If you are in no particular hurry, I could perhaps be convinced to help you with this, provided you pay for materials... it cost me roughly $25 to do both my bikes (not counting capital expenditure of $165 for the staple gun). I already have the staple gun, and pretty much everything else I need.
