Leaking KLX250S rear Shock

Leaking KLX250S rear Shock

Postby leep » Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:20 pm

Hi All,

I've added a little 2010 klx250S to my kwaka stable, looks like its failed a rear shock absorber seal unfortunately. Has anyone rebuilt a rear shock on these or know of where to get a new seal??

OEM is around $1400 for a new rear shock so would like to avoid that if I can.
cheers

Hi there, I have the same model bike (2011) and exactly the same thing happened with less than 2000kms on it and no off road. I got it rebuilt at Shock treatment. Wasn't cheap, 2 months without the shock :( but very happy with the result. Night and day difference. Basically total rebuild and new stiffer spring. :D Am in the process of getting it sorted for true dual duties. running road tyres on standard rims atm. have spare rims and hopefully take it off road soon.

Thanks Maxi,

yeah mines only done 1800k's, been parked up for a while before I got it so think the seal just gave up when it started to get used again.

would you have an indication to what they charged you to fix yours?

thanks

Contact Glen Alerton at GASD (Glenn Allerton Suspension Developments - 0420 927 414) to service it. He will be much cheaper than Shock Treatment and do a better job. He used to work for them for 10 years and Terry Hay (who owns Shock Treatment and is a suspension guru) doesn't do any work in the workshop anymore (unless you are a top class racer) and relies on his son and other workers to do the grunt work and in my opinion they are just no up to the same standard. You will just have to wait until after the weekend to get hold of Glen though, as he is racing at Winton this weekend.
