picked up the new addition to the 4th last night !!! Came with some excellent spares and I have already commenced some corrective electrical surgery prior to a rego inspection.

Will give it a good tidy-up before the photo session - should have some up shortly......

mmm this bike should sharpen me up a bit :kuda: :kuda:

well - here it is. One photo only, still learning to drive the GoPro as a stills camera.......

Image

Its a 2001 EXC. The enduro model. Local bike its whole life but never been registered - used on a couple of nearby farms according to old mate who sold it to me. He bought it a bit over 12 months ago and only rode it a couple of times.

Apparently he had plans to register the orange roughy (it used to have really bad bodywork) - so he lashed out last year and bought all new plastic - everything. Including a Vapor TrailTech dash and some extra fittings .... :kuda:

The bike is 100% bog stock. Starts easily and has heaps of compression. I won't bother delving into the bowels of this baby until or unless it become necessary

Spent all day yesterday sorting out the electrics - the stock harness is all there and in excellent nick, but none of the lights/indicators etc had been hooked up and of course they are aftermarket to don't just plug in to the stock katoom harness.......all of that is sorted now.

Apart from the spares which came with the bike (2 x brand-new knobbies that can be used for rego, 2 x spare straight handlebars, some brand-new unused bar risers and the Vapor dash and its accessories) - the bike came with a pair of Draggins, an Alpine Star 'Indy' leather jacket - and a pair of Gaerne road boats in size 47 Euro !! These have already been used last weekend in Rd 2 and means I don't have to lash out $600 on a pair of new r/racing boots. The Gaerne's are comfy as and didn't leak at all in last weekend's racing.

Next week will be interesting - booked in for a rego inspection at the end of the week. Its a full establishment of rego with all the bullshit that entails down here........but with a bit of luck it should get through OK.

I have a feeling that this bike is just the ticket to sharpen me up a bit........fingers crossed :kuda:

.......and rego inspection passed with flying colours :kuda: :kuda:

old mate thought the kato was in really good nick, especially how tight the motor sounds.

Am currently resisting the urge to buy everything I see on ebay that is orange ! went over to the KTM spare parts counter at the local bike shop yesterday - fuck me its like a lolly shop.

Will have plates sorted out next Thursday so looking forward to a blast in the bush shortly afterwards.

had an opportunity today to take the Kato out to my sisters place, its 20acres out near Bungendore - small, but the neighbour has 300+ and no issues with punters going for a strop as long as they close the gates :kuda:

So managed to get about a 45 min ride in - just to get a feel for how the bike works, do some tight-ish single trail stuff as well as some faster open tracks. Well FMD what a ripper it is .....has great power, the motor feels tight as buggery so I won't be touching it until it needs some lovin' ......

Suspension all feels nice as well - there were about 3 small creek crossings and it felt great just lofting the front wheel through these :kuda: I managed to get through the ride without any pants-shitting moments, which was nice - most unlike the big angry YZ500 which causes much anguish to undergarments.

Brakes are awesome, but one thing was the gearing which felt way too short. I was looking for another gear a few times....... :?

So for the first test-strop of the new rig - all I can say is that KTM build a great bike.....I can't wait until I learn to ride it properly.
