Mallee Masters trail ride 2011

Mallee Masters trail ride 2011

Postby Jonno » Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:21 pm

The 9th annual running of the Ariel MCC Mallee Masters trail ride was held last weekend.

Ardvark and myself loaded up friday arvo and headed 2 hrs east actually it was more like 3 hrs but i told Jase it was 2
53 riders registered for the event so it was a great turn out over the 2 days.

This would have to be one of the most gruelling physical rides you can do, all of it in sand and some of it deep and unrelenting (think sand dunes), some through tight scrub trees waiting for you to impale yourself on the branches. The temperature was 28 deg just to add another dimension along with the dust.
They said this was the toughest one they have held so far and it was with 140kms on saturday and 60 or so km's on the sunday.

There were a few minor injuries and considering what we were riding through it is surprising there weren't more serious ones.
Jase had to do most of it with a failed front brake which gave him plenty of oh crap moments as he used bushes to slow himself at times, he also scored a nice bruise courtousy of the bar end but i will let him post a pic of that if he wants too  Only one serious injury where a riders foot was caught in front of the peg as he hit a tree resulting in a broken ankle and a broken femur, had to transport him in a 4wd to get to mobile phone range to call a meat wagon but reports say he is ok..

Everthing went to plan, the organising was spot on and well run with catering etc, friday night had many drink to much and suffering the next day  so saturday night was a tad quieter around the fire 8)

Anyway the video speaks for itself ;)

This is a short video of some of the mishaps, Jase is in the light blue on the yellow berg..

As you've seen Jonno, the photo of the bruise is not suitable for public viewing. :)

But it's fair to say that half an inch to the left and I'd be one aggot down!

Yeah well I really didn't want to look at it but it sure will be one of those bruises that change colour everyday for 2 weeks.

Fair enough..... :)

After some careful cropping and painting, I managed to find some photos that are semi-safe to publish. Let me apologise to those eating their Weet-Bix, as due to a ridiculous amount of testosterone flowing through my body, I'm a particularly hairy man! And not the kind of guy you'd find doing that namby-pamby man-scaping, moisturising and tanning crap that some blokes (and I use the term loosely) do. Yes, I'm hairy. Get over it.

The first photo shows the initial size of the bruise.... the next two are what followed. What you can't see in the first photo is just how swollen it was. What you can't see in the second and third photo, is how far the yellow part of the bruise now extends.

Scroll down for photos, but you have been warned.

So, here they are:

Absolutely......you'd have to spend all your bike money on razors for the manscaping :P

Nice work though lads looks like fun. Next time I get the opportunity I'll throw a burnout in front of a cop and see what reaction I get
