Sliding the rear on the road...

I'm doing this more recently when commuting on the six and the bandit. I used to get off the bike more but these days riding lazier commuting and getting on the gas more aggressively as I become more comfortable, plus the six has got more snap with the pc3 and system.

So, to the guys who do it regularly on the track and or road what should I look out for? How far should I push it? Should I leave it for the track?

I've gotta ride more on the weekends, at least commuting is a bit of fun.

Whilst I am not one that should throw stones but me thinks you kind of leave that shit for the track.

Whilst I know I am one to do it, it is also while I gave up road riding. I was only having fun when I was riding and doing stuff that really doesn't make you very safe on the road.

Grip levels have heaps of variable but let me compare a few for you
Track = tyres, PSI and grip level.
Road = as above + oil patches, Tarmac changes, bumps, camber changes, white lines, leaf litter and much much more.

Just some food for thought.

However if you want to learn, I really suggest you learn on dirt. On dirt you rarely have full traction (front or rear). That will teach you to feel comfortable with the bike moving around underneath plus you can practice holding the big power slide with decking your roadie.

Once you learn that you will learn how to weight your pegs to control the trJectory of the slide plus keeping gradule throttle movements to get the slide happening and hold it there while still moving forward.

I do reccomend you try sliding at a higher pace. The extra forward inertiata will encourage the rear not to stray to far wide, out of line from the front which will discourage highside possibilities.

Yeah I agree with Russ on this, although it is a lot of fun it is fraught with danger.
Last time I did it was with Hammer in Qld earlier this year, had both front and back walking in a controlled slide through many corners and thoroughly enjoyed it but when the adrenalin subsided the reality was too close to 10/10ths for the road and no eascape clause if anything jumped in front.
Stu was impressed but said take it to the track mate, would like a day like that again at the track.

I suppose since I have done a few trackdays I am a lot safer and easier on the road than I was although some roads just beg for it, too many variables IMO

Point taken Russ *edit and Jonno* Dirt riding's not gonna happen anytime soon so maybe I'll have to button it off a little and ride smooth again - it' is fun tho

Disco..... new descriptive term for thin people - morning turd.

I've slid the rear at 12 a few times that's it for me.... Dunno how quick I can/should get on my roadie :) last Xmas track day I was in the mid 150s and only just touched my knee for a second on 3

Ive done it once or twice on a round about when the camber has caught me by surprise but i have no intention of making it a habbit, leave it for the track if u r good enough.
