Mods for the 250 Ninja.

Postby Cjman404 » Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:52 pm

Hey all,
I am wanting to put a Rear Fender Eliminator Kit, Rear Hugger, Front LED Flushmount Indicators and an Integreated Tail Light on my 250 Ninja, but can't get a straight answer from my local RTA or any of the Tech Enquiries operators on the legality of these mods. Just wondering if anyone knows about their legality or has these mods in NSW and goes under the radar.. lol :D

Yeah those mods are perfectly OK as long as they are done in conjunction with the current ADR requirements. There is website somewhere which will give you the specifications, such as minimum distance required between the indicators, Minimum angle from axle to lowest part of rear fender and so on....! Go surfing and you will most likely find it.

However, be careful with these mods as they need to be done in conjunction with the following to work properly.
1. Rear shock linkage to lower rear end
2. Polished wheels
3. Polished swingarm
4. Polished knob
5. Underbike LED's
6. Spiked bar ends
7. Spiked Footpegs
8. Anodised nut and bolt set
9. Extended Swingarm
10. Permanent parking spot outside the oasis cafe on Norton St

Good luck with your mods and I hope you get the desired result!

I think you'll find most of them are not within the ADR's but then there is so much grey in the ADR's in many cases. I've got a fender eliminator and integrated brake/blinkeron the 10 and it technically won't pass rego but somehow it always does.

I assume your just starting out, in which case i don't know that I'd go attracting too much attention. Cops in NSW don't seem to mind fender eliminators but I think they get toey about blinkers. If your a younger rider you don't need the hassles. If you're an old bastard like Marty you'll be right, thats how he gets away with the spiked chrome plated chain on the ZRX.

the integrated tail light is illegal,

blinkers need to be more than 300mm apart.

(stock 04-05 ZX10r blinkers are 180mm apart so go figure)

in some states, you can get booked for no rear guard, but seems to go unnoticed in NSW. as long as your numberplate can be viewed from 20m at 45deg each side and above the bike.

hugger, is personal preference really.

and when you riding a 250 on your L's and P's, i'd want me front blinkers to be quite visible. and not just from the side. :?

but i dont think you can get booked for having flush mount indicators. i'd go the small LED type before flush. 8)

I did a bit of research and talked to a few engineering buddies about ADR compliance, all of which lead to me deciding against the Integrated Tail Light, so instead I purchased some cats eye rears with the kit and they should be here by the end of the week. A tidy rear end here I comes! Will post pics of the installation!

Here it is finished! I'm tryign to track down a second hand rear fender now to cut down and cover the metal bracket, If I cut it right it should cover most of the holes that are created when the kit is installed. I stuck with the stock rear indicators over the cat eye ones that come with the kit, I found that the cat eye ones messed with the indicator relay a little too much, I think there was a small short within the indicators themselves, and weren't bright enough for my liking (probably would get pulled over for them being too dull.)

I have some Lime Green rim tape on the way to pretty up the wheels, so hopefully it will be looking sweet as of monday when they arrive! :kuda:
