Practice RTA Questions

Postby B-Ry » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:41 pm

I was just reading through the practice questions off the RTA website (I know its all common sense, but considering my L's course is on next Monday...)

Came across this question, thought it was interesting.

RS016 - Rider Safety MRH
Sticking your knees out when cornering your motorcycle on a road -
- Is not a good or efficient style of riding on a road.
- Is a tried and proven method of cornering.
- Will make you corner faster.

Alot of people on here talk about putting your knees down in a corner... I assume this is another example of the RTA not neccessarily telling the whole truth?

According to the RTA/police, if you're not fully seated on the bike - ie your arse in the middle off the seat - you are failing off and not in complete control.
Answer the question the way the RTA wants you to, then forget
If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

Like ty said, go with the RTA.

Personally I don't climb off the side of the bike on the road though. I think if you need to climb off the bike to go around a corner you're going way too fast to be safe. I reckon it's more about looking "race". On the track I climb off cos i wanna look race, don't necessarily go any faster though
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Hi B-Ry,

I saw that question too! My Ls course is on Mon 3rd Aug, & so far i've been doing the practise test at least 3 times a day! (paranoid much? ) I also wondered about that, as u do see alot of riders sticking their knees out like racers, i see alot of that (as a pillion of course) when hubby & i go for rides thru the National park. I actually got that question wrong the 1st time & chose "Is a tried and proven method of cornering" lol, oh well, now i know what to pick for the test, although i doubt i'd ride like that anyway!
