it does mean he's got an extra $3-4K in his pocket as long as he keeps the bike, and he'll probably still sell it for more than what it owes him, who else gets to do that :D

very true tim. Even if i fix her up and sell her for 6grand ill still be making money. The only 7's i have seen for that price are 6 years older and more k's.

but back to the topic, keeps me off the road, and must say $400+ fine os not worth it i say

let us know how it all pans out GPXPunk, im rather curious. I've considered the repairable writeoff thing a couple times but as others have said, whenever i was running the numbers it never seems to work out financially. And if im not mistaken you will be looking at around $1200 (green slip, rego, number plates and i think i heard that inspection is a few hundred?) at least to register the bike? So just from my rough calculations that $3600 is now $4800? Also does that include having them painted up or are you going to leave them unpainted?

Also, i must admit I am in the same boat as gazza2008au, when i look for a bike, seeing it was once written off is almost guarenteed a no sale for me. It would have to be hell cheap before it even crossed my mind. I am extremely picky though so maybe not a prime example.

However, you might be more mechanically inclined than me and know better places to get items. Been thinking of trying to put together a cheap 600 (dont own a car so the towing idea is out for me unfortunately :()to use as a track bike for awhile now (way too scared of binning my 9...) so if there is some way of putting repairable write off's back together i'd be rather keen to hear it.

You could be right there..... just contact the organisers & check with them.

unfortunately technically he is right (though im pretty sure there are places out there that dont check your lisence..).You cant do courses at HART / Stay upright etc. either. Although it's not illegal as it's not a public road, they wont let you do it because they arent insured for you. Found that out the hard way. Rode my wife's 6 there just before she got her full lisence in the hope that with a 1/2 day lesson she would feel a bit more confident on the road (she hasnt since she got hit on her cbr125r.. and i cant blame her) only to be told (after they told us it wouldnt be a problem on the phone) that they wouldnt let her do the course.

4 months isnt that long anyway. Just use the time to fix the bike up and make sure it's good to go. If you get a bit of luck you might slip in a track day if they dont check lisences. Dunno what happens if you have an off though.

Ah no build from 1996 - 2003, from what i know the only really difference is the frame. The frame from 2000 onwards was black i believe, but greenblood could tell you exactly whats the difference.
Yeah i saw the bikes on ebay for 3000-4000, and most were high mills or older models. I was also looking at a 96 & 97 model but both were $4750-$4950. so i would rather the 02.
