Back on the bike with a zx9

Postby Ithyphallic » Sat Aug 17, 2013 9:54 pm

Hi all,
As a new member to the forum just saying hello. Im from Newcastle and its been 7 years since i last road a bike on the street. My last bike as a 19 year old was an r6, which go me in a bit of shit and my license a lengthy holiday. Its taken me this long to know i can be sensible and trust myself again haha. Just picked myself up a steal on a 99 zx9r which I’m so far absolutely loving. Im 6’2 and 100kg so its much more fitting to my frame and a lot more comfortable than expected. It is pretty stock as far as i can tell bar a yoshi pipe (which sounds beautiful) Im looking forward to enjoying the old girl for some more laid back riding on the road and some future track days where i can enjoy it properly.

It has 60k on the clock, so is getting on, but for the price was worth the risk and rides beautifully. Unfortunately while letting the bike idle today on my driveway, the stand must of slipped into a crack in the paving and the zx9 took a tumble. Just my luck. The fairing already had some marks on it from a previous stationary fall, but I’m now faced with the problem of the stator cover. After some searching I’ve decided i will try to get it welded first (small crack) and if not go the china part. As it seems, the forum has alread sorted that for me before joining. Im pissed that its not going for now, but i will have her up and going in no time. Looking forward to keeping in touch with you all and being a proud new zx9 owner. If anyone has any helpful links or suggestions of threads to look up, I’m keen on researching the model a little (knowing what problems to look for, servicing tips etc)

Thanks :)

Awesome! I got back on a bike after a more than 13 year gap about a year ago, it was a 1999 zx9r, which was my dream bike back in 1999 when I gave up riding (first child born). It hasn't disappointed, I love riding it, and I love the look of it too. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I love mine :D

Cheers, I’m surprised how forgiving the bike is really considering I’m nice and rusty!

Yeh, it's certainly an addiction. I'm also a newby to the forum. Just got 95 ZZR1100 after 12 years without a bike. Riding like a grandad at the moment until I get a feel for the beast. Lot of grunt.

Safe riding
