New to bikes & riding... Also hi!

Postby bluebirdnate » Wed May 30, 2012 10:56 pm

Just figured I'd better introduce myself, finally joined up after a while sussing this place out, seems like there are a lot less idiots on here than some other forums that I've been on before.

Anyway, my name is Nate, I'm up in Coffs Harbour, studying at uni and I've just bought myself a ZZR250 for very cheap (seized big end, that's why!). Before you all say don't bother, I already have a replacement motor and it's still working out very cheap... Anyway, a bit of history, I grew up in Laurieton (just south of Port Macquarie), have been playing with old Holdens and Dattos since I was 13, participate in a fair bit of club motorsport and the odd rally here and there. I got a job at a bike wreckers about 9-10 months ago, which kind of gave me the kick up the arse to finally follow through with getting a bike after wanting one for years.

So, that's me in a nutshell. Any tips for the ZZR and parts interchangability with GPX (I have a whole donor bike here) would be much appreciated!

Welcome! 8)

Cant help much technically but if you have any specific questions re motor swap etc post it up in the GPX or ZZR bikes thread and there are lots of people on here able to help 8) A couple of times a year a few NSW people and occassional ring ins from interstate head up to the Oxley Hwy for a few nights of mayhem so keep an eye out for that later this year! :kuda:

Thanks guys!

As far as the actual mechanical work goes I should be right (well, I would hope so lol, I do work in a bike wreckers). Just not 100% sure what is interchangable. I know I need to swap the stator/clutch covers and I'm pretty sure I can use the switch blocks, the brakes look very similar too - not sure on what else I can use though. If I get stuck I'll head over to the ZZR section.

Coffs is a great place for driving/riding (well, I've only had the chance to drive as I don't have my bike licence yet), and as much as I love Bruxner Park Rd, Eastern Dorrigo Way and the lifestyle here my fiancee and I are looking at moving away. I want to go to the Central Coast as I feel it's our next best option - at least there seems to be jobs there, here we can't get enough money to survive. At least I would have better access to Eastern Creek Raceway and the new/proposed Ringwood Raceway down there, and let's not forget the Wiseman's Ferry Rd & the Old Highway!

G'day..... Coffs is great, Dorrigo, Oxley Loop, doesn't get much better than that...
but stay away from Stevo World (4 EH's in Front) at Bonville, I'm still recovering from last weekend.

Haha, yeah, I know who Stevo is... Every time I see him (not often at all) he reminds me that he has a good rear bumper that would go nicely on my EH - he knows how bloody hard they are to get too and how desperate I am to find one. The thing is I don't think he realises how broke I am! It's a crying shame he put that wagon out the front, yes it probably needed at least $40,000 work to get it back to drivable condition but it was an original, factory manual Premier wagon - quite literally the rarest EH ever made, from memory they only made around 170 of them. If I had have had the $3000 he was asking and could afford to restore it at the time I would own it now.

I love the Oxley highway too, I think I might have to get my act together and come on one of these rides one day. I used to love that road when I was on my P's - I've had a LOT of fun on that road in my old EH!

I never quite understood the hype around Dorrigo mountain. There are much better roads around here than Waterfall Way; yes, it is fun but there is too much traffic. You can have a lot more fun if you look directly west of Coffs, up around Bruxner Park, Coramba, Glenreigh & Ulong...

Yeah, everyone in NSW and ACT (Summernats) knows Stevo, We've been mates for more than 30 years. He had a Holden Wreckers and a Tyre shop in Sydney, before moving to Bonville about 15 years ago.

If it wasn't raining last Friday we were going to head up to Nymboida Pub for lunch, supposed to be a good loop..
