Glad I found this place...

Hey all,
First off I should tell you all I wasn't completely honest when I signed up and said I owned a 250r, truth is I'm taking possession tomorrow morning but until then I'm gonna fake it. After getting my Ls twice and letting them lapse I've decided to make a proper go of it, I was hoping to be able to get into the course again monday but I left it to late and now I won't be able to get in until the 23rd.

I'm really not sure how I'm going to cope looking at the bike in the driveway every day for a week and a half. Will power much?

I found a nice black 2008 with only 5200km's on the clock and crash knobs (crash knobs? Not sure what's happening here but I meant a brand if frame sliders) for $4100 (after a little negotiation). If I had my choice I would have had the green but I've invested in a tank pad with some green on it and green wheel tape so I'm halfway there.

I also just spent about a grand on a new green OGK helmet (I had an open face cheapy but it wouldn't do), Rjays jacket, dragin kevlar cargo jeans and some five advanced gloves. I almost sprung for boots but I don't think I'll be wearing the outside of my shoes off for a while yet.

I have to tell you this whole thing started out with me looking at 50cc scooters I could ride on my drivers license...things kind of span out of control from there...I also nearly ended up with the cbr250r but I just knew every time I pulled next to a ninja I was gonna wish I was on the other bike.

I was told that there are some ok cheap fairings to be had on eBay that are easy to install, does anyone have any experience or opinions to share on them? I figure it might save my original Kawasaki ones from a beginners mistakes and let me get some more green on there.

Also because it's only done 5200kms the guy I'm buying it off still has the original tyres on there, I'm not worried about the milage but is there possibly an issue with the rubber being almost 4 years old? I was figuring I would relace them at the 6k service, especially since the guy I'm buying it from is confident enough o them to drive to my place in the wet to deliver the bike.

Anyhow I look forward to pestering you all with stupid questions, I promise to make full use of the search functions first and hopefully I will see you all on the road before to long. If nothing else there's no bitching out of the Rdate test now ive spent every spare centi have (and a few generously provided on loan from the MasterCard collection).

Welcome, good choice for a first bike, definitely the best 250 out there, I wouldn't worry too much about the tyres, you'll be taking it easy to start with so wait till the next service and change them then, ask as much as you like, they're a great mob here and what they don't know ain't worth knowing lol

Thanks! I hope there's a few SA members he I can tap for advice and some people to ride with eventually, at the moment I don't have any friends who ride so I'm short on advice.

Actually while I'm asking questions the guy I'm getting the bike off says it's developed a bit of vibration in the front left fairing when the bike accelerates through the 6k rev range, he thinks its just a loose screw and the boltons Kawasaki guys without seeing (asked when I bought my gear today) it seemed to agree it was probably that or a rubber grommet thats wasted a bit. Could this be indicative of something serious? Not being able to ride it yet i can't be sure it's not a problem but a little buzz on a 5kKMs bike I'm not to concerned.

This will change. It ALWAYS changes. One bloke starts riding and all of a sudden everyone in the group is riding. Be that bloke.

should get boots. your ankles and lower legs are pretty vulnerable if you come off. simple low side and you could have 150kg of bike on your foot.
