Sorry for the delayed reply..
Great to hear you’ve now got the chance to follow up on a dream. Touring is great fun and you’ll meet plenty of awesome people along the way. There are plenty of people on here who love touring and have a wealth of knowledge.
900kms is a great start. I dont find Hwy Kms much fun and tend to source out scenic and twisty roads and points of interest along the way. My 73,000 in just over 3 years includes everything from GOR, Snowies, Adelaide Hills and stacks more (all numerous times).. Our country has the most awesome places to see and roads to ride.
While your learning get in and do some night riding and when you can wet road riding as well. You will learn heaps getting out and doing it, but every little bit counts.
RE bags/accessories, there’s heaps of info on the forum.. I have a soft 18ltr Andy Strapz bag
http://www.andystrapz.com but I tour naked on a Zed thou, trading up after 6months from ER6f. This bike as you may find will get knocked about a bit in wind. (Even more so I found than its predecessor the ER5) which was one of the reasons I upgraded. Enjoy your wheels, it’s a reliable steed.
While your collecting toys, don’t forget a decent camera!
Happy trails, look forward to hearing how your first long trip goes.
It all comes down to how you ride it.....
