hey guys i dunno if im suppous to post this here but im complete noob who just got he's L's and cant wait to start riding. since no one i know owns a bike and i dun have much (none actually) experience picking out a bike i would like you guys to give me some heads ups.

i did a little bit of research around the net (bikesales mainly) and talked to some people at the place where i got my L's, it seems like the zzr250 would suit me, first its quite cheap for a 2nd hand bike, i dont plan to spend too much over 4000 to take to bike home and also it is able to do some highway riding as i live in both bendigo and melb. i've heard the zzr250s are quite bulletproof but are there any common problems with the bike? and also im planning to cheak out some bikes i've seen on bikesales, would love some hits on spotting the difference between a good bike and a lemon

any imput would be appreciated

zzr250's are good machines, although the higher km models will rattle and cough a bit. aside from obvious accident damage, check for damage to the frame and the steering stops. Nothing's not fixable, butif you can get one with good rubber, decent headstock bearings, newish chain, etc, you'll save a few bucks in your first few months of ownership.

Good luck, and welcome to KSRC and motorcycle riding ... you'll love it!

Price sounds about right for the year and km's. These things are pretty bullet proof. The only thing you may notice is a knocking noise with the motor when its cold. This is normal on the ZZR, if you press the clutch the noise should dissapear, so if you hear it dont worry too much about it.

Ive heard engines running past 100,000km with the noise and no impact to anything.

Have a look at it and if it looks very tidy then its worth the money. Relase on these bikes is quiet good, so in a hear and a half time when you want to upgrade, you should be able to sell it for $3000 - $3500 hopefully, provided its in a tidy state.

Mine, i couldnt sell it for $10...
But then again its been dropped and the fairings arent the best. Also i rev the guts out of it. But in saying that, it hasnt let me down once!

Good luck with it mate, and welcome to the forums :)

just the usual things to look for.....chain & sprocket condition, fairing condition, tyre wear, oil condition, notches in the headstem bearing, service record, etc. the only thing that i had a problem with was the clutch basket chatters but doesn effect anything apart from being noisy.....as long as yo look after it, it will look after you :D

Did you say 9 thousand kays ? Thats nothing for a ZZR . If it is in Bendigo I am happy to have a look with you some time .

thanks for all the comments . much appreaicated . i heard from someone that 9000ks on the bike seemed a bit sus as its a 2001 bike . but the thing is the owner told me the bike is getting cheaked out by someone else on friday which pisses me off as i cant inspect the bike til later . stupid exams and all . i guess there are lots of bikes around but i really wanna ride as i just got my Ls

Thanks kid for offering to cheak out the bike but the bike is not in bendigo . its actually in echuca but if i find something in or near the bendigo region i'll definately love someone who knows abit more about the bike to come and cheak it out .

thanks for all the welcomes and im glad to be/soon to be joining the world of 2wheels

Yeah too bad mate, but every time you turn around there is another ZZR for sale. So dont worry there will be plenty more opportunities to get one ;)

I looked at that one in echuca. It was Foooked the odometer was stuck on 8000k's and it had been dropped.... You need to found some one that you can tell really loves their bike. and has looked after it.

First of all welcome to ksrc, and second, good choice of bike, I love mine.
I bought my '02 model for $4000 with about 9000km's on it and I reckon I'll put heaps more on it before I even consider getting rid of it. Pay no attention to the knocking on start up, it scared me out of buying the first one I looked at but have since learnt it is normal for them.
Good luck with the search
