New Member - Hellooooo.

Tue Nov 04, 2008 8:17 pm

Hi, New member so thought I’d introduce myself - love the site!

’99 ZX6R rider from Hunter Valley NSW. Been road riding for around 2½ years, spent maybe 4 or 5 years previous on the dirt. Bit of a late starter on bikes – didn’t hit trail riding until early 20’s.

Passable road riding skills but still a lot to learn and skills to gain.

50% of my riding is with my wife as pillion and the other half is out with the boys (usually at the back of the group).

I’m a bit of a mechanical dolt – lucky I have friends to help me out with my bike – so from time to time you might find me tapping into the brains trust of the website for basic mechanical tips.

On that note… I’d like to tap into some advice on tyres, I’ve already had a read of the tech tips article but might make another post elsewhere for any specific opinions.

Anyway, g’day to everyone and see ya’s around.

Dave

welcome!!

tyre's are really up to your personal riding style. what kind of riding do you generally do! I know you said alot of it was with the bpys so am I to assume twisties?

Gday Dave and welcome. So many Daves on this site 8) ...Tyres are about what you feel confident with.
Personally I like Metzler M3s, excellent tyre that does it all very well. Wet or dry, full lean grip is great.

Cheers Rod

Sorry everyone, I logged off after making my post - should have stayed on-line to answer some of your responses...

Blur as far as my riding style goes I do like to get out amongst the "twisties" but I'm far from hanging off the side of the bike. Even after two years of road riding the "oh s*it" factor still has me a little itimidated. As I said in my post still got a lot to learn and skills to gain.

When I got the bike it was due for tyres so I relied on advice from salesmen (probably not the best but..) and bought pilot powers front and rear. Fronts still fine but the rear needs replacing. I've never had a moment where I've lost traction or wheel spun - maybe i just dont try hard enough.

I wasn't sure how much I'd suffer by maybe going to a pilot sports or pilot road (or equivalent in another brand) to try and get some more longevity out of the centre of the tyre.

i know, I know.. its all relevant and personal preference but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

ive got a 01 6 and im thinking i might go to dunlop roadsmarts, conti road attacks or pirelli corsa III... if i get a set on i'll let you know what they feel like...

tyres are so personal so u may end up going through a few sets before u find the right ones...
