Gday Lads

Postby Sawty » Tue Aug 02, 2011 9:28 am

G'day, My names Sam, I live in Coffs Harbour NSW.

Thought Id introduce myself on here as I know some of the forums can come in pretty handy.

Tomorrow I am going to buy my first motorbike, its a '91 ZZR-250, 32,000klms on the clock and has just had a new respray in bright blue and a thorough service (apparently).
I am two weeks off going for my licence so its going to be a very long and frustrating two weeks of the bike sitting their not being ridden..

Itll be my very first motorbike of my own, Ive only ever ridden quad bikes, dirt bikes and push bikes.... :)

Ill post up some pictures when i get the bike home safely.

Is there anything that I should know when buying the bike? Its a private sale and the blokes a couple of hours away (I have a mate whos coming with me to ride the bike home).

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to hearing what you guys have to say! :)

Sam

Hi Sam,welcome to KSRC wave.gif
Mate the ZZR's are a pretty sturdy bike, respray = accident in most cases so have a really good look around the bike for broken bits, & dodgey fixes, oh & don't rush into the sale,
Get a second opinion if you think something is not right....... there are plenty of bikes out there & the worst thing you could do is buy a lemon cause the cash was burning a hole in your pocket ;)
Oh & good luck with the licence.

Thanks mate!
Ill definatley be checking to see if its been in an accident or been dropped.
I know the ZZR250's arent the quickest 250 out there, but i dont see the point of having a quicker bike as Im only learning and 80Klms is the max i can LEGALLY go anyway :)

Cheers!

Just spoke to the bloke selling it again, and he said that it had been dropped lightly on one side and only has very minor scratch on one of the exhausts and one of the handle grips, other than that its all good, has never been in a crash and always serviced, but ill definatley check over it all using that HUGE checklist that lurks the forums.. :)

Are there many members on here from Coffs?

G'day Sam and welcome... :kuda:

As Rob has said have a real good look over it before you buy..
Remember you are the one with cash in hand and there are plenty of bikes out there for sale.
If it feels sus forget it....All good things come to he who waits..
Check chain, sprockets, brake pads and tyres for wear and tear also check all electrics..Lights indicators horn etc.
Have a look at the end of the bars, levers and footpegs for scrape marks (both sides)this will give an indication if its fallen over or gone down the road...
Good luck with it mate..
