ZX7R P1-9 New Clutch or Not ?

Postby shannony » Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:01 am

Hi Guys

Just looking for some advice on a clutch issue that is developing on my old 98 7r. I have got to the point now where the Clutch lever selector is set to 4 and basically the clutch will not bite until the lever is almost completely out and then it is engaged. The fluid level is also down at the lower limit on the master cylinder. Once engaged there is no slip at all throughout the rev range its just the clutch lever is out at full travel before biting ..

So .... What replacement parts does this mean i am up for ? Just the plates ? Or could it be a master cylinder issue, there are no leaks anywhere the bike has done 35k so i am expecting to replace parts however don't want to throw clutch kits at it if i don't need to, the fact the thing doesn't slip once engaged at all makes me think the clutch is still ok ish :)

Thanks in Advance all.

Yep, if it isn't slipping I'd say the friction discs are still ok. How long since the fluid was changed? I would start there and give it a really good bleed..

I Don't Recall it ever being replaced but i could be wrong. I will start with the basics and flush the fluid and bleed it up its weird as you would think if it i was a bleed problem you would have the opposite problem where it would not disengage. Its as if you pull it in say 10mm and your fully disengaged and vice versa the last 10mm is where it bites.. I'll get around to it and let you know.

Cheers

Sorry, I read your original post wrong. Yes, unlikely to be a bleed issue then. Time to pull the clutch out and check the friction discs and plates I recon. Also check the pressure plate springs and the bearing and spigot that the pushrod acts on.
