Very nice work Brian, although for some purists I imagine the HRC reservoir won't sit easy ! Just an observation, keep a close eye on those Marvics - they had pedigree for cracking, I've got a 5.5 rear that I went to a lot of work to refurb, whoch at first ride cracked around the base if a spoke where it blends into the rim. Fortunately, it'll be real easy to spot with your white paint, so please check them often. Have you had FCRs before ? They have a problem too, that you need to be aware of - has caused myself and a mate both to crash when the throttle jammed open.

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brian. Haha, yeah I knew you'd pick me up on the HRC item :D .

I've heard a few horror stories about Marvics cracking so will keep a close eye on them. I was planning on getting them x-rayed but not sure how to go about it or who could do it. The NDT mobs up here wanted $1000 and it didn't sound like they even knew what a magnesium wheel was.

I haven't had much (any really) experience with FCR's but now have 2 bikes with them (this one and the M1), so am trying to learn about them. I haven't heard of the issue of the throttle sticking open with the? Do you know what the cause was with you issue? Certainly would be a character building moment coming into a corner with the throttle stuck wide open

Cheers

HRC part usage on a ZXR: let your conscience be your guide ... :D

I was pointed some guys in Western Sydney many years back, called Metlab Mapel. At the time (late 90s) they quoted $120 per wheel for x-rays. Could be worth a call to see what their current prices are.

FCR issue is straightforward, I've highlighted it in the attached excellent guide to tuning them from scratch. My recommendation on your track bike: because the carb tops are so easy to access, before each ride check the screws are tight, and borrow some nail polish from your wife or a Ducati-owning friend; put a small dab over the screw. It works as a weak form of Loctite, and does the job. For the roadbike, do the same thing now, and at each service.

Cheers,
Brian

Note: couldn't attach a Word doc - give your email address please, and I'll zap it to you.

I nearly pissed myself then :-)

I've wondered about thos little ally screws over the needles (assuming that's the ones you're referring to). The ones in the 41's on the track bike were so bloody tight originally that I nearly stripped the slots. I was going to nip them but not too tight  lucky I'm a slack prick and haven't ridden it yet... the Dookatee nail polish is a great idea.

One tool I had access to when working on the Resurrection GPX750 was a battery powered rattle gun. It looks like a typical battery drill but does the impact thing. By crickey it made pulling the old carbys apart dead simple. Other things it worked a treat on were the screws holding down ally master cylinder lids. I'm going to have to get my own one.

Hoping to fix or change the chlutch and change the water pump in the next couple days. Then it'll be the maiden voyage just up and down the road. I'm guessing there will be some mucking around with the carbs to try to get them working good enough for now. It's a 2000 Klm round trip to my nearest track so I hope to do a track day before the end of the year.

Done any more races with your M?

No more races on the M unfortunately, we have a 900 motor to get in it as a winter project but that's not got very far! Hoping to get out and do a club round later in the year though. Some restructuring going on at work too, so also waiting on anything happening in our area before I lay out any bike cash.

Today I stripped the clutch on my L model track bike as it would slip almost as though it wasn't engaged at all. I found 2 problems...

1. The bearing in the outer plate that the push rod acts on was cocked and half way out. This was obviously holding the clutch partly disengaged all the time. I have no idea how this could have happened? I have never ridden this bike so I can only assume that a previous owner has installed it incorrectly, although I don't see how anybody could do it. 2. The leaf or finger Spring is broken. Photo below

The parts manuals show a different leaf Spring and nut (different part # and the Spring looks different) for the '94 and '95 model to the '93. Mine has the '93 type leaf Spring in it. The parts diagram also shows 2 leaf springs for the later models not 1 like the '93.

Can anybody explain the difference? Or do I just put the late model springs and but in mine? Every other part number in the clutch is identical in all models.

I'm guessing the later model Spring was an update to a better part?

Thanks
Brian
