ZXR M1 Breather Pipe??

Postby deswoodaunec » Sun Jul 03, 2016 5:15 pm

Hi,

I'm new to zxr's and I decided to do a minor service this weekend and change the oil, fluids etc.

While removing the left side fairing a small black pipe fell to the floor. It appears to be some sort of breather pipe and it's about 38cm in length with a slight bend at one end and a clip fitted.

I was hoping someone out there can save me some time and tell me where it belongs for before I take the tank off and start searching. It doesn't appear to affect the way it rides but I'd like to put it back where it belongs.

It's a stock 1993 M1 running the standard 39mm Kehins (flat slides).

Thanks

Don't know the ZXR m'self, but I'm guessing either the drain for the air box (if it's plugged at one end) or the water drain from the tank filler area if it's not?

I had a quick look underneath last night and there's two pipes disconnected. I probably caused it when lifting the tank slightly to remove the battery for charging or perhaps they were already disconnected. I just purchased the bike so who knows. The tank discharge outlet has some black tape wrapped around the outlet so perhaps it's been like that for a while.

After checking the workshop manual I suspect one pipe is the fuel tank discharge and the other is the air box drain as you mentioned. The lengths and shape seem to match up.

Thanks for the tip.............when I find some time I'll remove the tank and sort if out properly.

Pretty sure that's the airbox drain; from memory, the hose frm the tank isn't curved at the end. Unless you ride in torrential rain it doesn't serve a useful purpose, so leave it off and rejoice n a little weight reduction.

Cheers,

Hi Brian,

You were right. It was one of the air box breather pipes. The other pipe was the tank discharge which I probably loosened when propping the tank up to get the battery out.

Issue resolved.

Thanks
