ZXR750 Charging issues.

So I picked up another project recently, and have come to the point where I'm trying to work out my alternatives for replacement.

This is an L2 model, I replaced the battery yesterday, to find out after a 20 min ride the battery was completely flat again. So I know the bike is not charging and have tested the bike to confirm this (voltage drops from 12.6V to 11.1V @5000rpm. Now I'm trying to figure out my alternatives. I know rec/regs and alternators are hard to come by (and expensive) for these L models, but I wanted to find out if anyone here knows whether the ZX9R B models (94-97) would have the same alternator assemblies since they're a very similar engine?

Does anyone know this? I can find ZX9 alternator assemblies pretty cheap. I'd rather replace the unit as a whole and have an alternator for spares than have things start to slowly break on me and require replacement one at a time.

Yep, ZXR L & ZX9 B alternators are interchangeable, I've got a '93 750 one in my '96 900 motor.

I would've preferred the original in your face colour, but this is in your face enough! I think the person who decided on the paint scheme wanted to go the '95 WSBK Muzzys zx7r scheme

So I assume the rectifier would also work from a 9R(B) in a ZXR(L)?

yeah it should, I'm getting a whole alternator assembly on Monday for $150 so I'll let you know what blows up!

Track bike got painted, ridden then sold!

Let me know if you need a hand with your street fighter project, I have a spare 7/8" flat bar lying around you can have for free, and I've drilled my top clamp on the 250, so there isn't much to it, also bought the risers locally and got them within 3 days.

Replaced the alternator with another unit from Southwest Motorcycle Wreckers, and problem solved.

Bike charging and running much better now! However... my headlights don't come on anymore... I think it' an unrelated issue. Need to go back and check fuses.

How much did the alternator set you back?

Think I may give that a go on mine then!

Need to pull the motor out anyway so I can take a look at the CCT and while its off I can do more work on the frame!

$150 for the alternator, shoot me a PM, it's all yours, it's just taking up space and I'm not going to use it...
