OK,

So, ive checked the frame with a known good tank, and I now know deep down where suspicion lives in that cold dark corner that the frame ive dropped $700 on is borked, theres at least a 20mm gap between the tank lugs and the frame, which indicates this thing has taken a big hit at the front to me.

SO, after sanding away some of the paint from Richos frame, which I know to be straight at the front, (the subframe is pretzeled) im going to hhave to start all over again, after sending this one to Laurie Aldertons to get him to true the whole thing up.

Pissed at myself.

A Lot.

Didnt think this frame was borked, the guy I bought it from told me it was a goodún.

Sigh

That's shit news mate but Laurie is the nuts so you'll end up with a minter when all's said and done!

Any chance of a refund or explanation from the original seller?

Nah, i bought the engine frame and wheels over 5 years ago, theyve just sat in the garage gathering dust.

Well, it turns out the lovely grey frame in the photos above is bent, so, back to the beginning we go,

In the meantime ive finally finished fettling the Z1000, so did this over the weekend,
