I gotta ask the question....
Why do Batteries seem to run flat on 12R's when they have apparently been sitting for a while?
I've gone to look at/ test ride 2 12R's lately and both have had dead batteries..
(as much as it's poor form to try and sell something that isn't actually working)... I really would like more information about this phenomen.....
Ie: is a trickle charger a MUST for a 12r... instead of 'nice to have'?

I have just replaced the ORIGINAL battery on my 12R....nice to get +10 years out of it
but
it did survive (as will the newie) hooked up to a trickle charger
bump starting a 12R is not something one does if you can help it
( as I found out .... 3 blokes and a 12R make like a Monty Python ep ...

)

Thanks Smitty... You've pretty much re-enforced what i am thinking!!!
and 10 years is pretty impressive i must say!
....
Just more concerned that with efi.. battery condition is more important than with carbs....
I used to bump start my flying condom by myself.... (cbr-1000f) .... now that was a pain..... find flat space 400 metres long and run run runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Clutch out (and pray)

i'm also assuming optimum charge back through rectifier is at 5k rpm? so just running(/aka dawdling in first) around city streets might not be enough?

Replaced my 12R battery after 5 years.......they don't like sitting around doing *nothing* , so if you have a trickle-charger, bung it on.....
