Help...ZX7R Tacho Issues...Help

Postby Maddog » Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:23 am

Hi all,

Was hoping someone out there may be able to help..

Pulled the dash out of a zx7r and put my old race dash in..Which was working fine when last used.(also from a zx7r)

The problem I'm having is the tacho is reading approx double the revs...

I have plugged the tacho from the original dash back in and it seems to be displaying a true indication of revs..

So do you think the tacho is buggered or may need recalibrating....

Also does any one have a tacho like the one in the pic lying around there shed just in case i need another one...
I believe it is out of an earlier model ZXR

Thanks Maddog

Have you run that tacho in that bike before Maddog?? If it's off an earlier ZXR and your putting it in a later model ZX-7 then that could be where your problem is

Does anyone know for certain if a standard road dash in a zx7r uses 1 or 2 coils to the feeder wire on the tacho.......Also does a 92 zxr750 tacho use 1 or 2 coils

Without checking it out, my theory on this issue is...
Standard dash....Tacho wire in loom splits to both coils...
Race dash.........Has a 92 zxr750 tacho runs on 1 coil....

I'm thinking the old bike when using race dash may have been modified to use 1 coil to feed tacho
(hence the reason it was fine on the old bike but reads double the revs on current bike)

Confused...??...dont blame you......cause i fuggin am
Any way I'll get back to the shed at some stage and delve a bit deeper
