Hello all,
I'm going to be off my P's in April and have thus started to look at what I should get next. At the moment I got my mind set the supersports, as I don't think I'm ready for the 1000cc, plus I do ride on the track and 600s would let me learn how to ride properly first. I'd like the stay with a Kwaka, but obviously if something else pops up that I really suits me than yea it doesn't have to be...
Anyway I really like the 2003-04 zx6r, 636. I like its looks, its very light, and when I hopped on the seat I felt very comfy. I haven't sat on the 05-06 yet, has anyone ridden both of these and can comment on how they compare? I like the 05-06 too, but it seems a bit 'chunky', especially for a feather-weight like me. Does it feel that way when ridden?
Or maybe I should just got a 09 zx-6r with allll the goodies...$13,500...brand new, not paying for other peoples problems etc.
Or a gix750

.....
lol oh the dilemmas

Don't buy new its like throwing your money away

there are plenty of reasonably priced sixes out there, you know what my preference would be but why not try both & compare, there was nothing wrong with the 03-04
Oh & as for chunky..... no way! svelte is more like it

I personally think the '05-'06 is a much better bike than the '03-'04, especially on the road. But to be honest, the best thing to do is for you to test ride one of each and then decide, because what suits you more may not be what suits other people, and how it feels to you is all that counts in the end.
And no, the '06 doesn't ride "chunky" at all

I'd agree with Cath that the 05-06 was much better sorted, I bought an 03 when they first came out, and while they are a great bike on the track or a really good road, the suspension is extremely harsh for most roads so you will certainly need to get it sorted properly to get the most out of it so factor that into the price.
Personally I still prefer the look of the 03-04, for one thing the exhaust is where it supposed to be
I would think you could pick up an 03-04 model pretty cheaply now as well.
Cheers

the 03-04 looks horn, and as matt said, the zorst is where is should be!! and yes you can pick em up for 7k easily... lots of em in blue too...
test riding would of course be the go...

7k easily? where have you guys seen them for sale? I'd go get one tomorrow if I could find one......I'm serious too
Re: The ride being harsh...I don't mind spending a bit to get the suspension re-valved/set up/ change springs etc...so its not a major thing...
The 05-06 has a slipper clutch though... arr well I'll hop on both and see which I prefer I guess! neither seems to have major issues...

I've ridden them both; I own the 05 model as a trackbike.. The 03/04 'feels' smaller, lighter and more chuckable when compared to the 05/06 model.. but as above the suspension is harsher and the bike isn't so plush and tractable on the road. The 03/04 also turns quicker (with what I assume was stock suspension settings/ride heights) as I think they increased the rake(?) for the next model...
Motor wise there's not much in it; certainly I couldn't tell the difference riding both back to back but I believe the 05 model has the 03/04 6RR cams and a few more hp..
I guess it depends on where you want to ride; I think the 03/04 would be a better track bike, and the 05/06 a better roadbike..
