while riding home from work the other day my 12 lost power and locked up. i pulled off the rode and tried to fire it up and when it did it spat fuel and smoke out the pipe?????
it did this once more before i got home. The bike spent 3 weeks in the shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it and its been fine since has anyone else had this problem or any ideas what it might be

Isn't this the same ZX12R that regularly gets a pasting between Leeton and Albury/Wagga/anywhere in the Riverina ??

Its probably a combination of fucked cam chain, cam chain tensioner, valve clearances all closed up, worn or broken piston rings.....

Did the shop pull the top end apart ? If they didn't, well they sure didn't check *everything* at all....

Gearbox issue?

What was the last thing you did on it do you remember?

Like, tensioned up the chain, changed oil, adjusted anything at all?

Sounds like you got it going agin to at least get close to home before it did it again.

Not having a go, sometimes these things can have a bearing on the outcome.

Outside of serious engine failure just a maybe might be pc issues and it not sparking correctly, which model?

What kind of smoke, does it look blueish for example or just smoke and it dies but runs without smoke, or whitish?

yes it is the same bike that gets a pizzling around the riverina but it still hasnt got a lot of k's on it and it was only serviced about 500-600k's before this happened i dont think they pulled it down but the mechanic said the oil was spotless and there were no faults on the computer and everything checked out fine on the dyno. it hasnt done it since but today for some reason the clock jumped back to 12:00 while i was riding???? maybe a short somewhere????

not having a go is not an issue although i had been taking it easy on the bike for a week or 2
pc/spark issues should show up on a diagnostic or dyno shouldnt it ???
cant remember the colour of the smoke just remember spinning out about the smoke
