hey guys, anyone knows how much roughly it costs to change the cam chain and/or the tensioner, and how easy were the parts to get? easy fix or takes a while?

let me know please.

i know where you can get a cam chain pretty quickly, i have the internal of a cam chain tensioner, but your guess is as good as mine on how good it is (engine blown)
if i were you id honestly change the cam chain, the your tensioner should still have some adjustment, with a new chain,,,,,, and it should only take a mechanic who knows their stuuf about 3 hrs,,,, maby a little more

how many k's you got on the motor man?

i have 43,000 and the guy at the bike shop said the cam chain should be fine.

if anything you may just need to replace the cam chain tensioner.

why are you getting it replaced? is it noisey?

hey, sorry for tha late reply,
odometer says 51 xxx kms, well firstly, my first mechanic said he would change the tentioner, then he calls me to tell me its automatic adjusting so it means that the tentioner was worn out, so i said sweet no worries change it with a brand new one, after alot of bull sh*t he said he has to get it from japan which would take 2 months, bla bla bla. What he then did was put it back together but didnt reset it properly and the bike was so loud and rattly it sounded like a rotary.

so i took it out of his shop and took it to another, they opened it up and reset it properly, which was fine, took it for a ride that night, and i heard these ticking noises every few seconds, i thought forsure it was my cam chain. i took it back and told the mechanic, we decided to go with brand a new tentioner, and new cam chain because at then it had a tight spot.

now no rattle, no noise no nothing.. it sounds great....

cost me $600 for new tentioner, cam chain, and new radiator coolant. includes labour and material.

during idle yes, you might hear it at certian revs when your riding, as soon as i hit over 11 grand you won't hear it, after i took it to the first shop, it was to rattly, like the motor was going to blow.
its was just a little rattle,

a few days ago i saw a ninja A model for sale for a mate, the tensioner on it so was worn out, the dude who was selling it had no clue on motorbikes. he told me it was mis=firing i didn't even bother argueing or telling him the problem lol, let him think whatever, because he was arguing with me, because when he started it he kep it at 6,000 rpm when he jus turned it over, but when i lowered it down to 3,500 to 4,000 he got abit upset about it.. lol
i think ninjas are notorious for thier CCT to wear out easy..

I have read somewhere try are the same engine but don't quote me on that.
Maby a call to metropolitan spares at silverwater will shed some light, they charge like a wounded bull but have always been helpful with info!
Good luck :)
