Which Oil

I am changing the oil if I can ever get the f**king oil filter off. I have two oil filter removers and none fit.

Anyway

I have an 96 ZX7R, used only for track days, just curious what others maybe using for oil. I have used motul and shell in the past but was just wondering what others are using on a slightly older model bike?

Just throwing this out there, a friend (well I know him) says he uses standard car engine oil (mobil full syn.) when he changes his engine oil and has never had clutch slipping or engine problems with is bike. Is this possible as I thought or was told the friction modifiers would kill a clutch.

Depends whats on sale.. ;)
Castrol R can be picked up from super cheap for about $56, but I stock up on the 20% of sales ($45). Its full synthetic 5w 40. They sell if for the same price as the gps semi synthetic.. I use that in the 10
But generally, any semi synthetic 10w 40 motorcycle will be fine and can be bought for under $40 if ya look around, so I wouldn't go with car stuff as the $ aren't much better.
I bought some repsol semi 10w 40 from Autobahn a while back for $36.. thats for the 7...

Having said that, try to stick with the same oil as varying the oil type at changes can cause additional wear and sludge build up..

The undesirable friction modifiers are in energy saving oils and possibly in some of the very low viscosity ones. The majority of car oils work just fine. I use Shell Rimula Super in the GPX. It's a diesel oil. 8)

Its interesting that you mention Rimula X. One of the boys up here on CanberraRIDERS who knows his way around engines, swears by this stuff - he uses it in his GTR1000, and reckons it comes out after 10k just as clean as when it goes in....

It's pretty good diesel oil, but I found my diesel 'cruisers ran better with Penrite HPR30 Diesel ... maybe you fella's could try it in your bikes :) Me, I use Motul 5100 semi-synth - it's not the cheapest but it's never let me down.

I'll keep using Motul 5100 in the MFP12, was thinking more about using Rimula ( or maybe even Penrite) in the old dungers ?? I'd reckon the little 6fiddy would go OK on this stuff, and its pretty cheap when you buy it by the 200-litre drum !!

rimula X for me as well, have used it for years in everything, road racing ZX7/9.5, My KTM 525 that has done 3 finkes (top 50), Kamfari (2nd in old farts), 4,6 and12 hour enduros, and 2 Simpson crossings without ever comming apart, even for rings!!! Also use it in the Triumph and both cars. best to buy it in 20l drums when on special at Super cheap or equiv.

Use what ever you want, just change it all the time.
