ZX7r

Sat Jan 05, 2008 11:15 am

Does anyone know if the fairings from a zx6 (93 - 99 model) will fit a 96 zx7R

I have just purchased a zx7r and plan on turning it into a trackie.

Also does anyone know about a good brake upgrade. I was told about possibly fitting current zx10 brakes, is this feasible. Anyone done something similar.

No, fairings from a zx6 won't fit the zx7r.. You will have to get zx7r fairings as other models will not fit that bike, not without a lot of mods anyway.
You can get zx7r race fairings from Racers Edge for about $800 a full set..
As far as the brakes go, the zx7r has a great set of std brakes, there 6 pots and with a set of braided lines and some good fluid will stop on a dime.
Get the suspension sorted too, a shock and fork rebuild will be the go (contact Zenodamper) and raise the rear ride height and drop the front a little to make it a little more nimble around the track.
There a great bike..

i'm with dave, the zx7 has a great set of anchors.......just make sure the suspension is set up to cope with the power they can unleash.

6 potters with dinner plate size disks will do the job - good enough for marty craggill ;)

Yeah me 3.

As someone who has had both bikes there is not even a snowballs chance in hell of getting the F series ZX6R fairing on the ZX7R (the ZX7R is a fatty :D ). Go to Racers Edge for a set. Also Race Glass do a slightly cheaper (cost wise) fairing but I have heard that it is much cheaper in it's construction (if you get my drift).

Re the front end is reknowned as one of the best front ends in the business. Just get your suspension sorted and your all set to beat up on the current crop of 1000cc hyperbikes.

Also aren't the 10's brakes radial? Which would make mounting somewhat difficult ?

Suspension will be done shortly.

The only reason I am looking for an alternative with the brakes is that they have quite a bit of travel before grabbing(I have only ridden it round the streets as it is not registered and the first track day for me is not until Feb, how good or bad they are will not be know until the track day unfortunately). Coming from an 03 GSXR which had serious bite when braking this just feels different.

Will see how it goes in Feb and go from there.

Thanks for the info as well, appreciate that.

Put in some new pads, some decent fluid and give em a good bleed and they should be fine..

Good luck with it and I may see you at the track soon...

BTW, I've got a 93 model and its good for mid 40's at the creek.

considering how many of the 10 owners are swapping the front brakes (mastercylinder mostly) .. then i wouldnt change it for the 10 system...
