ZX12R rocker cover gasket, radiator out or not? Any tips?

Postby up2nogood » Sat Oct 13, 2007 2:47 pm

Just doing a general clean up and noticed I have lots of oil dripping down the engine from the rocker cover.

And it's only bloody done 24,000kms.........

Anyone got any tips on whether it's just a prick of a job, or if it makes it to being an absolute bastard of a job?

Fairing is off already, so that's most of the way there........

Had that happen to mine, turned out to be a cover bolt had vibrated loose and tried everything to get to it to nip it up, finally found a small socket set could be squeezed in and the little fu*ker tightened up, oil leak fixed without stripping the bike. Good luck with yours and hope its is not a gasket.

Got it out. Radiator didn't need removal. Had to chop the plastic cover over the coil packs though. No biggie, can rejoin with silicone.

Verdict? It's the gasket, the little fella who put the engine together used Kawasaki roof and gutter sealant rather than hi temp resistant silicone......

Bloody hell, there's a lot of wires to re-connect....... Off to the pub now, let's see how much stuff I forget to re-attach tomorrow!
