zxr-750 l1 timing chain replacement

well i've always had top end noise in the zxr - finally took it down to an "expert" who diagnosed worn chain rollers. so time to replace the chain!

now when the motor was apart, this would have been very easy to do - i did speak to another supposed kawasaki expert (he even worked for kawasaki selling spare parts, but as it turns out knew nothing about these bikes so his advice was completly useless) now it's all together & it will be somewhat harder to change.

i suppose i need a tool to split the link on the chain first. having spent a fortune on new engine parts i'm not using an angle grinder to cut the chain! then pull through new chain, fit new guide (already purchased) do a quick valve clearance check again just to make sure (rebuilt motor 500k ago) & that's it?!

so have i forgotten anything? maybe the need for double or tripple jointed fingers to get to everything now the motor is back in the frame?

having watched Brighton Kwaka do it on my ol'750....
they used bolt cutters (neater and no bits in ya sump) to cut the old
then wired the new chain to it and pulled it thru
and then used a thingyamijigger tool to join the hyvo chain
...all done with engine in frame

after having FIRST backed off and removed the tensioner

No worries smitty.
I only asked because I've given up asking for quotes from the local dealer. They seem to just pull a figure out of their arse. ie "allow about $400 labour plus parts to replace clutch plates"
