Right, makes sense I had heard that one pivot position did that and was therefore generally avoided - is there a generally accepted position for the pivot to be in that works in most conditions/set ups? Mine seems to be in the north west position when looking from the countershaft sprocket side, which I assume is the most radical position? Jim ZXR yes they do look rough don't they which is what led me to think it was a copy of the factory unit rather than one itself. Still trying to find who built the bike.

Hi, getting back to the original post, is there any source of information regarding the series of frame/engine numbers for each particular ZXR model? Do the M's (and K's) have matched series of numbers, or they random off the production line? Can you tell if an engine is an M or L from the number? My question is for the "production" homologation models, not the special factory racebikes. And I appreciate the difference in frames between L & M's.

To be precise, this thread was originally on where the numbers are located rather than how models are coded. Turns out I had trouble finding my frame number as it hasn't got one! Which is nice as it means its either a pre-production unit or possibly a factory race frame. Or both. I can't help you on how numbers are designated per model as I'm new to Kawas but I'm sure, in typical Japanese manufacturer style, there will be an elaborate way of telling - there's such a wealth of knowledge on here that someone will know.
