Nope, using some spools, I kinda get what ya mean with it tipping forward easily, but I just put a little extra weight on the handle end and it usually sits fine, I agree they're not very well designed..

If that is just a shit matt black acrylic it will be tough to look after.-- 1 drop of fuel on that tank and it will be rooted, it needs to be done in 2k matt black.

Other than that im lovin what you have done

Cheers damo

Thought I'd tell you that I had a chat with the painter, I've done all the prep work for him, and he's painting it all in 2k matt black and matt clearing everything for me by sometime next week ;D

yep, except the tank, he's patching it up and going over it with 2k clear, the primer itself is ok to go over with 2k he said, but just on the tank, everything else is getting done over with stripper and he's doing 2k, I've already sanded everything underneath anyway, price is great too, this guy definitely goes down in my recommended list, great to deal with, and he's really friendly and there's no bullsh*t service

I'll run it by him first, he's charging me $200 to do this, which I think is a great price for tank, hugger, front guard and ducktail( 3 pieces) which includes stripping the already crappily painted parts :P and filling the crack that I tried to plastic weld so he can get a nice finish on the front guard. I'll ask him if he doesn't mind doing more when I go pick the stuff up, see, he's actually a painter at a smash repairer

Thanks for the advice though mate, never thanked you properly! :kuda:

A new update! I've been really busy with uni lately and the bike has gone on the back bench for the last 2 weeks, but I've been doing my scouting for parts, and have got some from someone in Queensland. I got a whole rear subframe to play with and modify to fit some other fairing sets to, and I got a stock exhaust that has been drilled out, I'm getting this one cut in half, (would do it myself but it's welded and I can't weld myself so I can't get it back on). Finally got that battery bracket! Can finish putting the rest of the bike together now. I haven't had a chance to attend to the leaks, so I went out and tried to start the bike today, ran perfectly well, however, it's pissing out oil from the rocker cover. Shit. Really need to realign the gasket around the spark plugs. Here's some photo's of the leak.

oops, I haven't updated this in a little while, well the leaks are fixed, turned out the gasket wasn't installed correctly D'oh! got all the fairings finished and they're great, last leg, brake installation and radiator installation, got the bike towed to bikesmith, turns out there's a bent triple clamp/fork leg, it's about 5mm out, but it's putting my steering geometry out completely, so we're going to bend it back.

06/10/11

I know it's been ages since I've looked at this and worked on my bike, it's taken a back seat at the moment as I ended up in the business end of my uni semester, though, here's a pic of it sitting in the workshop as it is now, almost complete....

turns out the clamps were slightly out, replacing them, nothing else is damaged, frame is straight and forks are straight, also found both discs warped, replacing them as well, the wheel is also slightly bent, but nothing balancing can't fix.

the clamps are the weak point on this bike for the front end, the forks are much stronger then the clamps it looks like

27/10/11

well the clamps have been replaced, just waiting on front rotors, I have been a bit cheeky, had some money saved and splurged on this:

shouldn't have, but I have now learned how to do wheelies... and I'm trying to sell it to see if I can get the zxr out of the workshop quicker, but if not, the zxr will just have to stay put.. hmm...

I do want to keep it though, but let's see how many visitors I get.

08/11/11

sold the madass about 3 days ago, today I went and put a deposit down for finishing my bike, new tyres going on, metzeler race tec 2 on the front, and still undecided about the back as it's an 18", and I want the best tyres I can buy for the first changeover as I'm going to do a few track days on it.

Bike should be in my hands next week albiet with triple clamps and rotor carriers unpainted, everything else done, just need lights and indicators on for rego.

almost there, just need fork seals done before it gets put back together by next week, after going to superbikes on sunday, I have a fire in my belly that just cannot be put out by looking at bikes any more...

I really want to see this thing finished. :kuda:
Looks cool. Glad you got that oil leak fixed.....it was a shocker. That whole 18" rear thing sux! Did any other kwakas have a 17x4 rear? Maybe a zxr400, or the Balius? Just a thought.

Soon mate! :kuda:

thanks for the interest! Stupid me pushed a little ring gasket out of the way when reinstalling the cover...

Going with zxr250C wheels when I can get my hands on a set for cheap, will amke them into track wheels, hopefully with more aggressive tyres, and these two will be more about longevity, will defo be doing soreass campaigns on this bike, don't want to bald the race tec in about 2 months, yearly... that would become so expensive...

They look like a great commuter .
