Frog has basically covered it - when you lift up the tank and have a look down the intake stacks - you will see a set of throttle plates. These are the 'secondary butterflies', and if you turn the throttle (engine off), these babies don't move one bit...the ECU opens them at around 7000rpm....to smooth out the power delivery. They are not actually fully open until about 9000rpm ....

All you have to do to remove them.....is unscrew each small screw (2 per plate), and carefully remove each screw and each plate. When they are all gone, you will still be left with the long shaft that runs across from one side to the other - it stays put. You will see further down each intake, the 'primary' butterflies - and if you turn the throttle (engine off) - these ones actually move.

Thats it in a nutshell. Taking thr secondary flies off does mean the bike is a *tad* grumpy when starting from cold ( the secondary flies act like a choke in the lower rpm range) - but a couple of minutes running fixes this - and the benefit out on the highway when passing trucks/buses whatever.....well the response is heaps better imho.
