99 zx9r track bike

brake pads and my unaustralian tyres to be put on and its all done and ready to go for the 27th.
Might be getting a spare tank and make my dented tank black to fit with the color scheme

2nd trackday yesterday.
Great bike, its so fast. The ohlins rear is incredible.
It feels good to have a cbr1000 just draw level at the 150m mark on the straight
I need to either service the front brakes or upgrade.
Any ideas for a good bolt on and more modern brake upgrade?
I had a part fail on me but lucky kev was there and helped me fix it.

I found me ZX9 brakes would "shudder" under heavy brakes (150m mrk, or into turn 2).
My guess is it may be best to swap complete front end to a more modern ZX, maybe a 10 with radial brakes? That way you get better brakes and suspension...

Good to hear the repairs managed to hold on for the rest of the day for you.

I checked out Shinnynoggon's bike yesterday and there's a real simple way that we can brace the front so it doesn't happen again, I'll sketch something up and send it to you.

The standard front road fairing is connected to the headlight which is connected
to the bracket that supports the dash. This bracket is connected to the frame at the front.
But withl no headlight, no front fairing support. The weight of the fairing was resting on the H frame.
Id been told to put some form of support in to take the weight of the front fairing but
it slipped my mind.

anyway Kev came for a look at eastern creek on friday and just happened to notice the H frame
was cracked at the bottom on the right side. On further investigation both sides were cracked.
It had lasted 1 and a half track days and I did notice that the front fairing was moving round
quite a bit on the straight. Anyway Kev worked his magic and braced it all with zip ties and a
cut up old coat hanger (Macgyver style)

I went back out after missing a session and the bracing was actually stronger than before.

I also have a "street" ZX9 and a Hayabusa ( the GS1000S is my brothers ). And I have just bought myself a Z1R but its still on its way from the states.

The track ZX9 has a ZX10 swingarm, Ohlins rear damper, KAIS ( english suspension company ) modifyed fork, 998 CP pistons, Keihin FCR 39m carbs, Ported head, std cams ( ?? ) , z1000 transmission, zx10r slipper clutch ( a PAIN in the ASS to modify to fit... dont ask ). I have just gotten hold of a set of Dymag magnesium rims and I am running Michelin Power ONE "B".

The Hayabusa has a 1585cc engine and also gets some track time:


Oh and ALL the work on the ZX9 has been done by me ( except plating the cylinder and the fork ).

Hi Just got myself a 99 ZX9R tracky and need something to connect the fairing to the ducts that pass through the frame. Where did you order your ones from? Could you only get carbon or are there some fibreglass straight through ducts being made by anyone?
