oil change problem

I've never, ever, pre-filled an oil filter, and I've never had a problem. The only thing i might do different is to bump the motor with the starter 2-3 times (switch it off quickly if it fires up) to get the oil pressure up before running it.

I have to say - I have done countless hundreds of oil changes on heaps of different bikes - and never pre-filled an oil filter once either ??

It seems very odd to me that filters need to be filled or burped or anything like that.....once the sump is full of oil, the oil level should be higher than the filter anyway, and any trapped air should either rise by itself, or be pushed out as soon as the oil pump starts to turn ( ie when the engine is cranked over....)

It would be great to have a workshop mechanic get on here and explain this - paging John from Mornington Kwakka !!

Gos have any of your bike's had an oil filter up high?....both of my 6's the filter was high up on the motor unlike the Zed where it is right down the bottom at the front.....I have read on other US forum's where guy's are even needing to prime and or burp the '09 zx6r to get pressure....Where is the filter on the MFP up high or low?

It would be great to have a workshop mechanic get on here and explain this - paging John from Mornington Kwakka !!

my problem has been fixed. i put my bike in a trailer and travelled 30 minutes to go to a kawasaki dealer in another town for them to help. the next day it was ready to pick up. they said they put a dry filter on it and it was fine and working with great oil pressure.they told me it may have had some crap in the oil valves and the trip over there may have made it come out. does this sound possible ? thanks for all your help . mark.

to be honest mate - all the old-school stuff has the oil-filter inside the sump, right down the bottom. As soon as you re-fit the filter and screw it back into the sump - then re-fill the sump - the oil-filter is filled up straight away......

On the MFP12 - its located low and out the front. I did the oil-change on Mel's old ZX6R a couple of times, I am sure it was in much the same position ??

Glad to hear that it has been solved, but the stuff about 'crap in the oil valves' - sounds like crap to me ! How high does the oil-filter sit on your bike ??

if that doesnt work lie it down on the right hand side and make sure its the right hand side and leave it lying there for about 5 minutes go and have a coffee , this workeed on mine is common apparently with kawas they get air blockages so try that
