Hey guys!
My mate recently bought a zxr250 (not in the best condition) and needs to replace his rotors, its making a really weird grinding sound whilst riding, and coming to a stop. He was quoted 800$ for the set by metro wreckers, does that sound reasonable? where else should we try looking?
Cheers

P.S he didnt sign up because of the email banning thingo....sigh so im posting for him.

Sounds very steep for rotors on a 250... i think i got quoted 250 for each front and 150 for the rear for my old 6.
did a quick search of ebay and despite the drastic shipping costs, still well under $800

Man, $800 is stupid!!
I paid $500 for new OEM rotors for my ZX6

mrwasabi- I'm not sure about the Chinese front rotors on ebay, so we are going to call up some other wreckers and see how it goes.

Yeah I've asked Metro for some prices before and he appears to always ask top dollar

Yeah I know, you wanna support local spares people etc, but it's not worth it considering you've gotta ring around, bargain, get down there etc, when you can get things shipped from the US to your door for less than half what he quotes you.

You sure it's rotors. Has he checked everything else ie pads etc. Not sure why a worn rotor would give you a grinding sound?

glen- yea we are pretty sure its the rotors, he has replaced the pads and also we compared our rotors and his one was all worn out.

In Mexico here there are a few places that put new meat on your carriers, Awesome Discs, Planet discs and some new joint I heard about via my bike mechanics, called metal gear or something like that, now if there are (at least) 3 places in Melbourne doing this shit surely there has to be one or two in Sydaney doing same?

+1 with Glen
did you pull the wheel off at any stage when looking for the problem.....
the speedo hub may not be located correctly and this does make a terrible noise.......... .
check retaining spring clips may be caught up.........and dragging on disc
grinding noises aren't usually caused new pads even if your discs are shot....usually interferance or metal to metal when pads worn

hey kevin, i've bought many spares off metro and he is by far the cheapest and most reasonable with my zxr 250 c
ive purchased my rear rotors off them last year for around $100 or so,and if i remember correctly for a set of used one where like $440, just haggle them down,
if you want to pay $800 go to mca and get the waved rotors if your that keen,
there's another bike wrecker in penrith, not sure of his number but if you google it i bet you can find it, see how they go..
