No spark but intermittent just to make it harder to pinpoint the prob... sparky looked at it, said nothing worng with it that tey can find, mechanic said spend aother hour and make sure you can find notihng cos there is defiunately a problem somewhere :(

Road bike and neither of the above, starts fine one day then all of a sudden says fuck it, i'm nt gonna start. Blokes that have it now are auto sparkies and specialise in bikes so if they give it a clean bill of health then fucked if I know where we go from there...

I had similar trouble with mine once upon a time - needed new coils.
They were within spec but slightly off norm - new ones (actually 2nd hand) fixed it up.

Yep, the only thing Kawasaki never seemed to get right ws the electric fuel pumps, I've had exactly the same intermittent spark issues you describe with 2 ZXR Ls, a ZX7, a ZX9B & a ZX9C over the years.
I've had occasional success with stripping & cleaning them, but it's better to just replace them.

Fair to say i'm not the most mechanical bloke on this forum but if fuel pumps were the prob I wuld still have spark, just no fuel to ignite, my prob is I have fuel to ignite, no spark to ignite it with...

The problems I had were a fault with the fuelpump cutting out the starter button & occasionally the spark - it's in the same circuit as the clutch switch so the fault in the cap on the pump would affect the starting system.
I also just remembered, there is a junction of 3 or 4 major earth wires in the middle of the thickest part of the loom at about the back of the front seat, I've had 2 bikes where the solder joining them all together failed, that caused intermittent no spark issues too.
